Basic Question! which module will suit my need better...

Hey there,
Iam a newbie to the world of home recording and I have a couple of very basic questions.
I play the piano now for quite a while and would love to capture the sounds of the piano (guitar voice etc.) I need 6-8 tracks of
recording and at least 3 simultaneousrecording tracks. I need only the basic effects and a built in preamp would be nice. My price budget is around 500-1200 dollars for the recording console, but it's preety tight as I don't have much more money for mics etc. and would like to invest there too.

I wanted to know which module will suit my need better: a computer based module (such as MBOX) or an external digital workstation.
Do you have any recommendations on specific gear?

THANKS
zapta

Well, most people 'round these parts like to go with the computer, as it allows a little more flexibility, and it's generally cheaper if you already have a computer.

Perhaps reading some of the FAQs on this site would be helpful to get you started. And welcome to HRC.

I would go the computer route myself if you already have a computer that is up to the task. Lexicon makes a unit that sounds like it would work for you service.bfast.com/bfast/c...mp;bfmtype=gear and it comes with decent software, leaving you some wiggle room in the budget to buy a decent mic or two. That unit also comes with Lexicon's Pantheon Reverb plugin to use with the software. I have that reverb plug, it's awesome.
