Hi Folks

Here is a brand new song I have just (literarly) finished mixing. It's a cover of John Lennon's "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)".

www.badmartini.co.uk/HappyXmasWarIsOver.mp3

It's available now and will be til after the year.

This song has been cooking for around 6 weeks and features only folks from this website. Here's who done what:

Vocals: Flame, Olddog, Coolo, Me, Guitar Jim
Rhythm Guitar (Electric): Guitar Jim
Rhythm Guitars (Acoustic): Me
Lead Guitar: Me
Bass: Guitar Jim
Celo: Coolo
Violin: Coolo
Drums: Olddog
Percussion/Other Bells: Olddog

This has been a massive mix for me, doing all this different stuff in one go and the best mixing experience Ive had since I started all this just under 1 year ago.

Take a listen, see what ya think and let me know your thoughts. See if you can guess "who sang what"!!!! Cool...thanks guys.

MERRY XMAS.

Coco and the HRC Collective!!!

Great job coco, I'm sure it was a ton of work getting that all put together and mixed. Really turned out great!

Hey thats really neat, nice ones guys!

That chorus is quite magical when you all chime in together. Very sad i missed this project :(

Have to ask though.... that crackle at the start, is that intentional????? Sounds as if it's not, but apologies if it is!!!!
Actually, the first 10 seconds in general almost sound out of synch... can't put my finger on it... after that, its all aligned lovely.

Great work on the stereo placement of those vox Coco.

Cheers guys...

I think it turned out not too bad maself which I often dont say after a mix.

Hey, Sibly, I dunno what that crackle is so I'll check it oot. It may be a pop in the recording as my PC was crumblin under 25 tracks, most effected with at least compression, pleanty verb with chorus, delay and various other fx thrown in (I had to start applyin the effects rather than patching em in the end) - aye, now I know 25 tracks is tight on the machine!!!

I will listen to the first 10...maybe there is a delay to the PC - dunno. It was synched to start with but I'll check it oot.

OldDog, good man. Thanks for the input and efforts you put in too (and everyone else). I love the drums on this (far better than the programmed nonsense I do!!!) and the vocals are top too. I particularly like the ending bit with the War iS Over lines....nice work,

Cheers

Merry Xmas

Hey Coco my friend, sometimes DAWs can do funny stuff right at the start of a song due to the effects that are being used on the tracks... maybe thats happening here? You might need a second of silence before the tracks (that have effects on them) start, to give the effect enough time to kick in.

I love it, guys. It's a great version. The tracks do seem a little out of sync, however. I love that chorus! Hey coco, nice job with that mixing - sound quality is pristine, everything seems to sit well in the mix, except for that sync issue of course.

It's gonna be a very HRC Christmas... :)

Hey Guys

Thanks to ye all for listening - much appreciated.

I think the sync issues may be a couple of things (possibly). I deliberately added Coolo's violins and cello off sync as I liked the sound better...kinda half time off beat - it fitted to ma lugs. It may be that that is throwin it off.

Or, it may be a genuine mismatch by me (or my PC) crumbling udner 25 tracks with effects...or, it may be something else.

I listened again Sibly, couldnae hear the crackle but Im sure I'll find it.

Again, BIG thanks to ye all for listening..Ive been absent roond these here parts lately - sooo busy with this song, xmas, secret projects, kids, etc - so, I'll be giving some of your stuff a listen too when I get 5...Sibly, I'll take a listen to yoru stuff too me old Welsh mucka...all the best to ye.

Loki - my part (to replace yours) is but a filler. When you get down to doing your part, just chuck it on down to me and I'll put it in the mix (I didnt want ma part theere - just done it to get this finished for now). Nae worries pal...whenever ya get time.

OK...now, for lunch in these here parts....

Cheers

Coco.

Coco, you mean you arent hearing any crackle during the first 5 seconds???? Thats very strange. I just downloaded the file again and renamed it so's notz to overwrite the first download, and it's still happening for me. Am i the only one hearing this? SOunds reallly really scratchy, like a grammaphone record from the 18th century....

If i get the time tonight, i could upload a clip as i'm hearing it???

I hear the crackle too...

That being said, Coco you have done a great job as always! It sounds to me like we were all sitting around in the same room at the same time recording this song, when in actuality we were scattered about the country/world!

I'm proud to have been a part of this. It's why I continue to hang out here at HRC.

Here's to more collaboration in the new year!

That crackle must be the VST I used on Flames vocals then...I think its like the one I used on my own...only, I screwed up the chain methinks.

I usually always use Comp/Verb and EQ in that order.

I changed that all aboot on this..it may be that, with the effect lackin/slow to kick in.

I'll check it oot...cheers guys.

Jim - cheers for the good mang. More collabs for sure...nice work to ye all.

Coco.

And just a side note coco. The times shown on the file itself, and the actual time and title are differant from each other. As are the file size as well. Very strange anomily there.
