A mate of mine is looking to start the wonderfully painful journey of learning home recording.
Try as I might he insists on using a laptop.
I’ve been looking at specs and the ESI QUATAFIRE 610 seems a good card.
Could I just get some recommendation from you guys on that or other cards?
His needs will be basic mulitracking. Oh and he doesn’t have fire wire so please let me know if a PCMIA - fire wire card is ok
Cheers guys

Dec 20, 2004 07:34 am I just looked down the page and got some answers, after searching the forums first too :)
Still - would the ESI QUATAFIRE 610 be a better option than the Tascam soltuions?
Dec 20, 2004 08:15 am Well, as I recall the Quatrafire is a firewire product. I will however, say that ESI's drivers are much higher performing than many, and probably has the best WDM driver I have ever seen personally.
Another highly rated device work via USB service.bfast.com/bfast/c...mp;bfmtype=gear which has been getting great user comments and reviews.

Dec 20, 2004 12:03 pm laptops rock. I am so happy that I have configured mine to give me a good performance. You might also consider getting a fast external firewire hard drive, but make sure it is a quiet one or like mine it will gather dust, not tunes.

Glad to hear you are using a laptop with an external firewire drive. How many tracks have you recorded simultaniously? I always wondered about the through put of a firewire external. I am thinking of using mine on occasion. I have an external firewire drive and a USB interface.
