I have been recording from my peavey amp straight to my computer from the preamp out jack. The signal is very weak unless i turn the amp almost all the way up. Is there anything i can do, or will i need a mixer. Also what does the preamp acutally do.

Dec 15, 2004 07:06 am A preamp, in theory, is supposed to boost the signal to a better level for recording, in your case maybe not so much. have you tried miking the amp?

Dec 15, 2004 11:06 am I noticed that on a Peavey amp I had as well. Best I can figgure is it is meant to drive another Peavey power amp. It was not a standardized pre-amp level out.
Oh ya just hit me as I was writing. On my Peavey amp it was a pre-amp out and amp in pair meant for looping an effects peddle(s). That would explain it. Basicly same level as the instrument pick-ups. Daaaa...love this forum, makes me think.
One frustrating thing about this industry. It is lazy with the use of nomenclatures. Great example the Pre-mp out. There is an electrical standard for that nomenclature, but everybody uses it as a vague term meaning a tap off the amplification section....somewhere.
