Hi...I've been reading this site for a while and love the assembled knowledge, so I figured I'd post my first topic and ask a question about what sound card to buy.
I'm in the process of getting a new system, which will be chock full of memory, disk space, and processor speed. I'm looking for a sound card that can give me relatively high-quality audio recording capability, preferably with at least four separate analog ins. I'm not really looking to spend more than $250-300 or so, although I might if it means a remarkable upgrade in overall quality.
Currently I've got everything running through a 16-channel Peavey mixer before it gets to my current sound card (which is just a cheap Dell unit that came with the CPU). I read a bit about using an external card...would this be advisable?
Thanks in advance.

Dec 13, 2004 05:26 pm If you aren't afraid of opening up your system an internal one could be an option also...
Alot of folks here run a M-Audio brand of card...I myself run an Echo MIA and dB runs an ESI [email protected] E-MU has some out...

Dec 13, 2004 05:26 pm 4 seperate analog ins. A lot of poeple here like the Delta 44 for that purpose. I use a Delta 66 and am extremely happy with it.
Dec 13, 2004 10:45 pm Thanks for the quick replies. A couple of questions...
- No, I'm not afraid to open my system up. Is there a benefit or drawback to using an internal card vs an external one?
- Regarding the Delta series...is there a really noticeable difference between the 44 and 66?
Thanks again.

Dec 13, 2004 10:51 pm as for the diff between the delta 44 and delta 66, the sound should be the same, but the 66 has an additional digital in/out that the delta 44 doesn't have. Otherwise they should be the same.
As for internal/external, I think the internal would offer latency performance (info would travel quicker), but the external might be more convenient if you want to change from pc to pc. I could be wrong about this, but it seems to make sense to me.
