Telemarketers can call friggin cell phones?

Starting Jan 1, 2005, all cell phone numbers will be made public to telemarketing firms. So this means as of Jan 1, your cell phone may start ringing off the hook with telemarketers, but unlike your home phone, most of you pay for your incoming calls. These telemarketers will eat up your free minutes and end up costing you money in the long run. According to the National Do Not Call List, you have until Dec. 15th 2004 to get on the national "Do not call list" for cell phones. They said that you need to call 1-888-382-1222 from the cell phone that you wish to have put on the "do not call list" to be put on the list. They also said you can do it online at www.donotcall.gov Registering only takes a minute, is in effect for 5 years and will possibly save you money (definitely frustration)! Make sure you register now!

I've started to have fun with them. They call asking for my mom, I tell them that she died by being burned to death getting stuck under a gas truck that slowly leaked out gas on her wrecked car and ignited.

Oh yeah...good times!

I don't know how it is in the US, but in Australia the DNC list is a piece of ****...

Namely, telemarketing companies can opt to buy it, but most of them simply say "we can't afford it" and don't use it... they use a different list and completely take no notice of it.

Ugh.. can you tell I've done telemarketing before? I HATE IT HATE IT ALL TELEMARKETERS ARE EVIL.

Ehem.

In the US they HAVE to use it.
Since adding my phone to the list...
I've gotten almost no telemarketing calls,
Aside from the ones allowed by the DNC list...

Yeah, my calls from telemarketers dropped dramatically after subscribing to the DNC list, it's worked great, the loophole here is that political candidates and non-profit groups don't need to use it. But I don't mind that, those are two groups that I can have fun with.

And willum, yeah, this isn't your forum, we monitor language here...please keep it clean and at the very least, don't work around the filters...

This is so lame. My cell phone never stops ringing as it is... the last thing I need is more calls that I don't want to deal with.

I know everyone has gotta make a living. But telemarketer's bite. My youngest son has a habbit of telling the dude or dudett to hang on while he gets a parent, then he procedes to hold the phone in the toilet bowl and flushes away. Some have had the gall to call back and chew him or me out for the stunt. I then procede to ask them for their home phone so I can call them.

Best one is when they miss pornounce my last name, I tell them if they can say it right I might be him. They usually hang up after that.

Worst one has been MCI, they have called twice a day for the last 3 weeks. Usually their auto dialer to see if your home, or the auto dial and hold thing and when you pick up, no one is there. I finally got a dude who answered and told him to stop calling or I would file a complaint for harrasment. He needless to say hung up immediately.
