Dec 08, 2004 10:12 am their new UB series is MUCH better than the older MX series, and they weren't that bad either, but a bit more coloring to the sound, at least the cheaper ones.

Dec 08, 2004 10:15 am Agreed, ditto Bruno.
Mixer pre-amps in general are not the quality of dedicated pre-amps. To a degree that should be obvious per unit cost and componant space. I will say that the top 20% of the amplification range say from 3 oclock to max is a little noisier than the bottom 80%, but that is not only a function of the pre-amp. It is also a function of the signal provided to the pre-amp. At those levels of amplification there is a good bit of noise floor being drug in with the signal.
I guess the best way I can express this is in terms of results with my Behringer. Using an NT1 microphone, a good cable, and my MX9000, I find no apreciable noise introduced. Now with that sensitive of a microphone I will also say that the 50dB or thereabouts noise level that exists in a very quiet room is well reproduced, but relitive to the signal strength of the wanted information e.g. guitar, vocal, etc. it is well within reason.

Dec 08, 2004 10:27 am The primary use of the mixer is for a MIC (behrginger B-2), But not for a pre-amp as i have a Behringer Ultragain pro (are Behringer taking over the world?)
I use it also for a V-amp pro (Behringer ofcourse) and get less noise with that so it looks like leads and room noise might be the problem.
i might call my first born Behringer!
Cheers guys!
Dec 08, 2004 10:29 am Hey, I like that idea, my wife and kids want a dog, maybe I will stop fighting it if they let me name it Behringer.
