Have you guys ever had interference from a wireless mouse during tracking? I was just about to buy a wireless mouse, but then I opted for a plain optical one. But my curiosty remains...

I don't use wireless for exactly that reason. I have enough signals floating thru the airwaves as it is...don't need any more.

I never really saw the need for a wireless mouse...

Hey Mauz...we have a wireless...we opted for this so that we could have a second screen/monitor in the recording room. It seems to be especially useful when the "engineer" is either recording himself or is part of the band being mixed live.

So far...the only problem we have encountered is low batteries (touch wood).

But my feeling is that if dB chooses not to use one...then our days with the wireless mouse are numbered. :-(

Cheers,

BM :-)

I use one and so far I haven't got interference YET. It's great when you are away from the computer some and can hit record and stop right there in front of your instrument.

Big downfall is the battery life is very short.

Well, I don't have hardly that much say in the industry, though, last time Mr. Gates called me I did tell him him to dump the FAT file system and he did, so that's a good sign.

I am with Sir Hero, I don't see the need, but, when I get my studio all finished and have a TV screen hanging in the corner with my desktop on it for reference, it might be nice to have a wireless so I don't actually have to be behind the desk to do things...but then, for that I planned a getting some sort of little control surface. Sonar works with simple tools like Microsoft Sidewinder joysticks and all that, so I figured I'd just get one of those for simple start/stop/arm/record functions from elsewhere in the room.

HEY heres one I'm qualified for. The overly opinionated answer to your question is it depends. The current bunch of wireless input devices operate on RF (radio frequency) the older and less reliable ones were IR (infrared) the IR ones will not interfere and would work ok. The RF ones however there is a possibility of interference going either way, meaning that because of the weakness of the RF transmissions the more likely interference would be with the operation of the wireless input devices. I had a wireless setup on my system at work and suddenly the mouse would begin moving all by itself. With the amount of EM radiation in an average studio this would be my concern. I did however one time long ago (I'm abou to show my age here) pick up a CB radio while recording Bon Jovi from vinyl to a cassette. In the end do whatever you want but I wouldn't use them.

Thanks

I've been using a wireless optical Logitech for over a year now and I've never picked up any interference from it.

I love it because I can hold it while I track vocals and stop/start recording from anywhere in the room. It's great for when you need to put the mic in akward places in the room to get away from CRT or light dimmer interference.

Battery life is about 2 months for me, which isn't too bad. 2 AA batteries every 2 months is a worthy price for me for the mobility.

eeeeeeemo.

i have a wireless on my normal recreational pc, and my electric guitar picks up the signal from it when i move it - kind of a weird clicking / beeping noise. can actually sound pretty cool :')

I've been using a wireless mouse for about a year, never had any interferance problems with it, or any other kinds of problems for that matter, best mouse I've ever had.

Never got any glitches from my cell phone, except the one time I was recording this mini skit type thing where I play two people having a conversation with each other in two takes. Well, right in the middle of the take, my cell phone starts ringing, so I went with it, and made it part of the skit. The whole thing is pretty amusing to me. Plus it's fun trying to improv one side of a conversation while leaving room for someone to respond (that you will record later).
