Help getting started with Cubase SX2 and my Firepod

First off I would like to say hello. I'm one of the forums newer members. I just joined yesterday and I love the amount of knowledge this place is saturated with. I hate giving myself this label, but I am a complete newbie to all of this recording stuff.

I am having a little difficulty getting my hardware/software setup configured correctly.
The search results I got back from the forums didn't help a whole lot.

I have gotten playback and recording to happen, but it is all through the left channel while using input 1. If I plug into input 2, I only hear the right channel.

This tells me that I have mono preamps on my soundcard. So I add a new mono audio track. I try and monitor myself and I still hear the left channel. I click record and record a little diddle and on playback it is still on the left channel, even after I try panning it to the left and right.

I selected the right ASIO driver for the presonus in the VST Device Manager.

Will I only be able to hear the panning effects when I try and mixdown to a CD?

Help me out guys. I can send screenshots or whatever information you need.

Welcome to HRC!

When posting here, it is usually preferred that you give us as many specifics as possible. Like, what recording application are you using, what soundcard, etc.

I'm pretty sure that if you look in your recording application, there will be an option to select left channel when recording, and you will get a mono recording which is right down the middle. Or if you plug one cable to input 1 and one cable to input 2 you will get a stereo recording (probably not neccesary depending on what you are trying to record). Hope that helps. If you need more info, let us know what you're using.

Thanks for the quick replies!

It's all good man. Just for clarification though, I am running Cubase SX2 in Windows XP with a presonus firepod.

I know what your talking about with selecting where to record from. It is setup to record from stereo left. I tried messing with some bus stuff in the VST Connections and changing the Stereo inputs to mono, but I screwed it all up and changed it back to Stereo.

Afterwork I will have a couple of hours to mess around with this. Any other suggestions would be great.

GOT IT!!

Alright, I'm an idiot. One of the cables I hooked up to my headphone amplifier went bad. I just replaced the cable with an extra foot long one I had lying around.

Thanks for your input coolo.
