E-MU 1820 vs. 1820M

Thanks for reading my post. I need some help from you guys.

I will be purchasing either the E-MU 1820 or the 1820M this week. I know that 1820M has an extra sync card. I don't have a lot of studio equipments, so I don't think the sync card will be of much use for me. However, I have also read about how the 1820M has a much better A/D convertor. I would like to know how much better it is. Mainly, I will be using the E-MU for recording vocals, sounds from my Yamaha Motif ES 8, modules, doing midi work with giga samples, some guitar recordings, etc. Which card will be a better choice for me? For my use, should i put in the extra 100USD and get the 1820M or should i stick with the 1820? For ppl that have used these two systems, are the differences noticable?

Thanks a lot for your help!

I have not personally used either card, but have read decent things about the series of cards. COnsidering the rather simple uses you have for your card, perhaps saving the money right now would be beneficial. If you find the preamps substandard down the road, you could always buy a dedicated preamp then and then pick your preamp alone, and get the best one you can, rather than the preamp that is bundled with something else.

hey thanks for your reply dood..

i believe that the preamps on both the units are the same....they both have 2 TFPro Mic/Line/Hi-Z preamps i think....the main difference is basically the converter...anyway you can help me find out more info?

oh oh oh oh, it's the A/D's not the pres, my bad. Well, that is worth going for the better one with. However, if they both record 24-bit/96kHz or better, I think either way you would be sitting pretty well.

Yea they both record at 24/192....which is pretty damn good....can we really tell the difference in quality? should i save the money to buy a nice condenser instead?

btw, at a price range of 100-200 USD, what condenser mic would you recommend?

you might be able to tell the difference, but if they are both capable of that you are doing OK.

Condensors, I dunno, there are lots of others here with better input on that than me.
