Regardless of the mic you use a compressor will be your friend. I would go for a decent compressor as that will the mic you have get some better recording. A condenssor mic may make you wish even more that you had a compressor as it runs levels VERY hot sometimes as they are VERY sensitive.

I would go for the compressor.

My theory is to make sure you have all the gear you need before starting to replace the gear you have with "better" gear. I still don't have a condensor mic and don't know if I ever will.

well said db. but i for one would go with the condensor only because of the fact that there are software compressors.

True, but many times by the time you can use a software compressor it is to late to do what you need it for.

Most of the time with vocals you need to compress it before it even hits the sound card. To early for any software to do you any good...in my opinion.

so i think i will go with the compression and if i have money left over i will think about getting a condensor....

the only thing is... that

i want to do some coral recording and the only thing i ahve to record right now is two beta sm57s...

they work ok.... sometimes the sound is just a litle thin... maybe its due to not having compression...
