when a stage snake says it has 12 xlr inputs and 4 trs outputs, does that mean that i can have say 12 mics on stage plugged into the 12 xlr inputs then send a stereo signal from the back of the hall from my power amp through the 1/4" outputs back to the stage to power and amplify the speakers??

Yes, that how I would understand that, 12 channels from the stage to the console, 4 channel from the console back to the stage.

wait...aren't speaker wires usually running TS or speakon or banana plugs? is it wise to run speaker level signal through line level wiring at that length?

DOH! I didn't catch that part of the post, good call Minkus. The amp should be on the stage AFTER the snake.

Just make sure you keep them away from stage mongooses (or mongeese, I can never remember).

That is an odd way to describe a snake. Most are described in terms of sends and returns. Example 24 XLR send and 8 XLR return. And definately as mentioned above do not send an amplified signal down a snake. You will make a great, very long toaster oven with a lot of bleed into the low voltage inputs. Insead of a sneakey snake, you will have a stinkey snake sheding its skin as it melts into the floor. Not great for amplifiers either when the insulation melts off the conductors and they short out.

But then there are those who went far by smashing their guitar....sooo

so i would run the main outs from the console through the snakes returns then from the snake box (by the stage) to the amps (also by the stage), then from the amps to the speakers? this seem right??
