i have an m-audio audiophile 2496 but i don't understand how to change the input volume of my external instruments via the soundcard.
if i turn down the h\w in fader on the soundcard mixer it only affects the master volume(of the soundcard) but nothing changes on the level meter of my sequencer software.
i am asking this because i want to record an high level input signal and be able at the same time to regulate the volume of this incomin signal through my soundcard.

I think I understand what you're getting at. If you open the M-Audio Control panel (if the audiophile has one, I don't know) It will bring up a software mixer where you can raise and lower volumes and such, or you can do it all within your sequencer also.
