Does anyone know anything? 1986 solid state amp with 2x 12" cones.

Found it in a pawn shop today...great sound.

Just wondered if anyone knows anything or maybe forty, you might know a website I could get info from?

Cheers,

BM

Hey BM

I know its all personal choice but there is no better rock sound for me than my Marshall with the Les Paul - a good choice methinks for ya!

Anyway, check this site here oot:

www.amptone.com - loads of amp related stuff and settings, ideas etc. Its a monster site but very good.

Also, check the links here, Im sure theres a section for this type of thing.

Good luck - yi canny whack a Marshall...

Coco.

BM, I have a link somewhere to a site that is nothing but vintage and new Marshalls. It goes into great detail on all Jim M's stuff. I will take a look for it when I get a moment and post it for ya when I get time.

Save up for an all-tube Marshall and I think that you'll be even happier! As long as you have a practice/recording space that'll allow you to crank it "up to 11", then seriously, save your money and buy an all-tube Marshall. If you can't crank it, then maybe solid-state is for you.

If you can't tell, I'm the local valve enthusiast. Ever since I went tube, I'll NEVER go solid state again! I'm addicted to the step up in dynamics, punchiness, and distortion. I can't, with a clean conscience, willingly advise someone to buy a solid-state amp, even a Marshall :-D

Hey, if it sounds good to you tho, then its sooooo yours!

Hey again Tad...thanks for that.

We have a couple of tube Fenders, the Hot Rod Deville 410 guitar amp and the Blues Deville 212 guitar amp. Also we have the Hughes & Ketner Quantum QC310 tube bass amp.

Know what you're saying...

We haven't had enough experience yet to decide one way or other...but the solid state seems to bring out different nuances of the guitars...the crunch channel sounds awesome to our inexperienced ears and the reverb unit is huge...well it looks huge.

And it cost bugger all! (oops)

Cheers,

BM :-)

Hey that's cool, it is definitely important to have a variety of sounds available. It sounds like you've got the tube thing covered ;)

I tell ya, those new Fenders sound AWESOME, don't they? They have to be some of the best amps in their class, for sure. I had the pleasure of hearing one up close and personal, cranked all the way up and it was plain ol' NASTY! (in a good way hehe).

You're not wrong there Tad...when they're cranked, they're nasty as! The 212 is vintage...real smooth!

Ya, the MosFet 100 had a strange settup for gain staging that gave it a very unique tone, or crunch as BM put it. It was very distinguishable (sp) from the rest of that era for sure. I know it was loud little bugger as well. Got to play through one several times and the thing could do the same crunch at lower volumes as well as high. If I remember correctly it really had a wide mid band. It could be scooped very nicely or cranked for a painfully ear splitting bit of tone like fingernails on a chalk board.

I still havent found the link yet BM, but I will keep looking as time permits.

No worries Noize..I know you're busy!

But you're right there Noize...scooped or cranked...that crunch is awesome and the reverb unit is amazing.

I was just wanting to find out whether I'd bought it for a decent enough deal...that's why I wanted to find out more about its vintage.

Cheers Noize,

BM :-)
