hey guys i was looking at buying the... Anatares Vocal Producer... i noticed that it has built in compression and i was wondering if i should get another sepreate outboard compression unit also cause it would be better.... what is your opinion... there are the specs on the Anatarest gear..
service.bfast.com/bfast/c...mp;bfmtype=gear
also what kind of compressor would u recomend i was thinking of getting a either a 4 or 2 channel one wich would u recomend and what brand....
my other question is...
should i run an my mics thru and eq before i record... or just record it straight to my card thru my preamp and then... worry about eqing later...

Alright, heres the deal with compression... BUY AN OUTBOARD UNIT. hehe. simple. To prevent clipping/peaking on dynamic instruments such as the human voice and drums you are going to want to compress them before they ever enter the computer. Musicians friend has great deals on some nice compressors, so click on one of our links and go check it out. Anyway, while software compressors can be very useful if you plan on recording dynamic instruments you are going to need to invest in an outboard compressor.

Nov 20, 2002 04:52 pm as far as the EQ part goes, heres what I do... I run my signals all direct for the most part... Meaning I don't mic the amps, I just plug things into the mixer and go via direct boxes and effect units. Anyway, in the EQ section of the mixer I'll do very little work, just getting a clean sound that I like and then I record, all the rest of the EQ and things I like to do in the software. Really though, with EQ, if it sounds good, it is good.

dbx 266XL Compressor/Gate:

Alesis 3630 Dual-Channel Compressor/Limiter with Gate:
service.bfast.com/bfast/c...mp;bfmtype=gear
I use the 266XL personally and have for many years, it's awesome.
Actually, you would probably be better off with another compressor just to have a more readily available compressor for things besides vocas that you do not want to run through the Antares, but for a strict vocal processor, I would say that would suffice just fine.
