Hi! Im setting up a small studio in my basement and am trying to decide what sound recording device to get. All that i know what i need is 8 simultaneous inputs. and I plan to record in Cubase VST or SX. These are what im currently considering:
Delta 1010 -$950 after tax CDN
2 Delta 44's -$630 after tax CDN
M Audio Firewire 1814 -$880 after tax CDN

Right now I'm leaning towards the firewire one considering I know nothing about building computers and I would be lost trying to install 2 pci cards. Would it work with my system though? My computer specs are this:

-ABANA 2.4 Ghz SYSTEM
-INTEL P4 2.4CGHZ HT 800MHZ 512
-ASUS P4P800-DX I865 4DDR SATA
-256 MB DDR 400MHZ PC3200 (I'll up it to 512)
-MAXTOR 120 GB 7200 RPM U133
Running XP home edition
(my mother board has a firewire connector in the back...is that what i need for the firewire card?)
I dont know, what would you guys reccommend? Would installing the delta 44's be such an easy task that i should just get those because they are so much cheaper? Is the firewire card far superior to the other cards, so i should just get that one? Any input would be appreciated a lot! Thank you!

Most of us here would say to up your RAM to 1 Gig or more...

You firewire connection assumption is correct...

The only thing I can say about the firewire stuff right now is it is a bit quircky. But that said, M-Audio is probably the top spot to get stabel drivers and such and will stand behind the product pretty rapidly if anything chokes on it.

And I agree with the 1 gig of RAM recomendation if you plan on running that many inputs at once. Track count will scarf up the resources quickly when recording.
