Um, still working on christmas songs. Having trouble finding time to record my vocals, where I can have some time alone. I don't like recording when there are other people in the house.

I have 2 that are going on a year. 1 is complete vocals and all but I don't like the vocals yet so I haven't released it, the other I'm still working on lyrics and vocals, the rest is complete. :)

I've been wanting to complete an album for well over a year now. I think the biggest roadblock there has always been the insistence that it must be done to studio quality (I mean, if I can at least make it sound as good as The Beatles, we're in good shape). The recent acquisition of a Cubase system along with some microphones and the like really robs me of excuses save my desire for collaborators in writing and performing. =3

Ive got dozens of unfinished songs, movies, ect ect. Ive the the attention span of a 2 year old. I work on something, then end up writing a tune on a smoke break, and going back upstairs and recording most of the new one, then get another idea. on and on it goes......

I have got dozens of unfinished or half assed songs...

Typically I try to out do a song with another even before its done...I've probably scrapped more than I have composed....

I get in the mode like "ok, gonna do a 12 track CD" I get an intro and a intro of a song and lose focus...LOL...

I think I am going to throw all this sh** on a CD and call it 'EvilMan Studios" - "The A.D.D. Compilation"

i've had to reduce my goal of having a full album. i dont even make goals like that anymore. for two months now my goal has been to write some lyrics that make sense for this one song i've been working on these two months. so every day i've been going to the bookstore and staring at blank pape, while enjoying coffee. an hour later the paper's full of lists and scribbles and i realize i have brain damage, localized mostly i hope in my poetry center.

if i get this one song done i move onto the next three i think are strong enough. beyond that i've got riffs stored up. one weird thing: this month i've had two dreams in which complete original songs appeared. i was able to wake up and remember/record them. problem is one is in my friend's pop-punk style--totally not me--and the other doesnt grab me. but both came complete wit chords and vocal melody. so, i'd like to get to the point where i just dream up a whole album. screw all this inspiration crap. lol

I have lyrics, but I don't know how the songs sound...well, I just don't write the music...because I'm lazy...and I'm thinking maybe I should delegate, collaborate ...cooperate...but I'm still thinking. hehe

Oh yeah, and in addition, I have a double EP I need to finish. Basically all the music is done, I just need to mix, and all the lyrics are done (except one verse which I've lost inspiration on), I just need to record them. I've been sitting on this for about a year now, and haven't moved forward on them cuz I keep coming up with other projects to occupy my time, like this silly xmas cd.

I've been hung up on just a few pieces of music for this "album" of mine. As of the moment it's gotten to the point where I'm just sitting, running through it over and over in my head imagining all of the different layers and arrangements I could try out on it (me thinkest Phil Spector posseseth me).

That's what everyone else says. But see, the first 6 or 7 tracks are going to be all instrumental, and the second 6 or 7 tracks are going to be with lyrics. So I'm breaking them up into two seperate EPs but putting them on the same disk. The album will be called Monkey vs. Robot, Man vs. Machine. Monkey vs. Robot being the instrumentals and Man vs Machine being with lyrics. So, see, double EP.

Wow! What a great idea for a topic!

Believe it or not, I am nearly finished with a batch of songs that re-tell some of the events from the Battle of Gettysburg....from our American Civil War. My intention is to package them into a CD and then try to sell them in gift shops out east.

Any Civil War buffs (or others) care to take a listen?

Well, like the rest of yi I have so much to finish. I just finished a 6 track EP that has taken me since last October!! Realistically, since January when I found HRC :-) ...

Anyway, point is - I was shootin for a full album (I've over 40 songs on the go just now most with chords, all have lyrics - some just lyrics) with only 6 recorded (and one of them was a new one I pinned together with a collab me and Flame were doin!).

So, unfinished is one way to put it. Unstarted is another. I loved Ian Brown's first album title "Unfinished Monkey Business" - I reckon my next EP will be called "Unstarted, Unfinished Coco Business!".hehe.

Jim, I listened to the song aboot Licoln and some of your others on Soundclick yesterday and I would say they are good. Acoustic/vocals always works for me - very cool and good lyrically too - your strong point in my opinion. I also listened to some of yer other stuff - all very good. Fav is still Hats Of To Beer tho!

Coco.

Dont even get me started. 20 gigs of 1 gig cartridges with about 10 years worth of starting and stopping. Then about another 40 gigs of half started, short ideas, and musical meanderings. All of which I save with the intentions of getting back to them. I end up working on so much other stuff I never finsih my own.

But I geuss finishing other stuff is worth something isnt it?

OK, Flame, so your little trick worked! I spent several hours last night working with my little Civil War Songs project. I put together a little page with download links and other info, if anybody is interested:

www.thecutaways.us/civilwar/

Now I just need to learn how to offer lo-fi/hi-fi streaming on my web site. Any tips on that?

oh yeah, as far as the hifi streaming goes, well thats sorted, it works, im doing it. for lofi i used mp3s encoded at 32k - not birlliant quality, but dial up can handle em...

hope this helps!

Thanks, Flame. I just re-saved all of the MP3s at 32k and re-did the page to allow for both options.

That was pretty simple!

I'm on broadband (cable), but I did try the lo-fi and it downloads quicker. I'm not sure if what I'm doing is the same thing as "streaming". I think I am just offering two download options, or maybe that's the same thing.

I don't know...

if someones on dialup it should stream if they choose to open the file rather than save it

Technically, if you are linking straight to the mp3 file itself it'll never "stream" it just plays when done downloading...the best you can do for "streaming" an mp3 without spending money ofn a media server would be to use an m3u file.

"Streaming" by definition means that it start playing while it's downloading.

Of course, I am sort of hitting it with a "simple stick", their can be more to it than that, but thats the crux of the issue.

Jim

I had a listen to those songs on Soundclick and a couple of others on yer new page - as ever - top lyrics...very cool.

I like the storytelling acoustic thing you have going on...

As for the streaming, dB gave me a heads up towards www.wimpyplayer.com/ which takes care of streamin yer songs (you can add all the types hifi, lofi - its a nice wee list and its totally configurable).

IVe now bought this and am tweakin it for ma own site before I start using it. Cost me aboot $24 and worth every penny - it also stops folk from caching the songs and avoiding buying them from ya (tho you can make songs freely downloadable as well).

Great little app.

maybe we sound make a game... call it "Musical Songs" we all rotate our unfinished material to the next person... :)

All I have is unfinished material... I think I should go into business making hiphop beats as once I get 16 bars in I hit a hard roadblock... actually... I think I'll do that... I hate rap though... :)

My excuse is that I've been a drummer for about 15 years and am having a hard time getting a handle on notes :)

Aye, Wimpyplayer also says it prevents your mp3's from being ached on the client machine too, which can be an advantage if you care aboot such things.

Hey DB

Have you had any luck in intergrating the shopping cart bit of this app with say, PayPal??

I tried for hours but it keeps failing telling me the link is wrong. I know I just copied and pasted the "Buy it now" button (but used the link for email rather than the <form> section that would create a button type thing).

It allows this and can link straight to PayPal (I had it work once but never again!)..so it CAN be done. Basically allows folk to buy songs directly from Wimpy! Brilliant...if it worked! DOH!

Nice app tho huh! I also noticed, if you involke the Playlist option, it allows ALL songs to be downloaded (force download) whether you set this variable or not.

Other than that, a smashin app.

Coco.

I'll plug away with it...if I finds the answer, I'll let y'all know!

I've been really busy and its all because of HRC. In the last week I have recorded and mixed 3 songs, 2 with the singer and banjo player and 1 with only drums and percussion, something I've been meaning to do for ages.

I've soughted myself out with a web address, something I thought was beyond me, site not quite ready yet though... and somehow managed to upload mp3s to it. This internet thing is a whole new world that has escaped me for too long.

Cheers HRC
