Has anyone else picked up Real Gone from Tom Waits yet? If you're a fan, then don't hesitate! Go get it! Now!

This album has to be the best stuff that he's done for years. This stuff is absolutely exhausting, but soooo entertaining. It's definitely intense!

If you're new to Tom, then this certainly isn't the album to start listening to...but if you're a long-time fan, you'll absolutely love it.

You fans might recognize an element that's been missing from his last several albums that returns with Real Gone: Marc Ribot on guitar. His atonal, asymmetrical solos and rhythm lines are back, and they lend an instant and definite credibility to the songs here.

Heck yeah, "Telephone Call From Istanbul" is one of my favorite songs of his. He seems to be an endless well of catch phrases for our generation. Here's a snippet of lyrics from "Circus" from his new one:

"...And then there was yodeling Elaine,
The Queen of the Air,
Who wore a dollar-sign medallion
She had a tiny bubble of spittle around her nostril
And a little rusty tear,
For she had lassoed and lost another tipsy sailor."

He knows how to paint a picture of a character, doens't he?

One of my favorite lines of his is off of Rain Dogs (I forget which song, maybe Tango Till They're Sore):

"I'll tell you all my secrets, but I lie about my past".

Yeah...'They take apart their nightmares
And they leave them by the door' (Tango til they're Sore)

I like many of his songs and the lyrics are amazing, so is his voice...man he must have sunk some stuff over the years.

When I'm out next I'll have a look for 'Real Gone'

Thanks for that Tadpui,

BM
