Can it be done?

Ok, this a pretty friendly area and I'll keep asking until my brain explodes. Besides, no harm done, right?
Anyway, I'm using a Behringer mxb1002 run into the back of my computer into the mic line. I'm using Cool Edit Pro 2 at the moment but have just started also looking at an Acid 4.0 Demo. (Any advice of both these platforms would also be appreciated!) Lets say I've allready recorded a bass line and want to record a guitar track to go along with the bass. Can I use the headphones and hear the bass while recording the guitar track?

Ok, use your brains and get to typing...and thanks!

Yes, the best way in your situation is to use a headphone out of your sound card if you have one, cuz you can't double back the bass track into the mixer or you will record both on the guitar track then.

If you are recording into a PC you will be using a soundcard. As you say you have CEP and are trying out Acid I assume you are using these apps to record??

Whatever yer linked to from the mixer is the soundcard - most probably the internal one that come with the PC by the sounds of it.

OK, maybe I'm a total dolt. Yeah, I'm into the soundcard of the computer. I'm using these apps to record, yes sir, that's right. I've been trying both CEP and Acid. My understanding of the major difference between these two apps is one can record multitracks and one only records 1 track at a time. So, about my initial question?

Thanks Y'all.

I can't be certain, but I thought both apps would record more than one track at a time, as long as you have more than one input on your card from which to get a signal from...

Ok, so what you are saying is that I CAN listen to one track while recording another using the headphones?

Thanks a lot for your assistance. I'll just have to give it a go and see what happens....
