any idea what the effect is on the 'hello, hello, hello, how low' bit? its quite distinctive but hard to describe, for me at least

any ideas what this was / how to replicate it?

failing that, anyone know butch vig? thatd be handy...

Could be a very subtle phase effect? It really is barely noticable. I'll be building a Phase 45 soon, and am thinking about fitting it with XLR ins and outs for vocals as well as guitar. Maybe I can get a similar effect. Whatever it is, it very tastefully done . Not too over the top, in your face.

maybe just EQd? I should listen to it, but one of my favorite effects is that slighty distorted "radio" sound. Theres a plugin in adobe audition under the Graphic EQ thats called lofi and it does a nice job.

enjoy.

Flame: Yeah, believe it or not I was actually talking to Butch and his studio one time about doing an album for a band I played in. His studio is called Smart Studios and is at: www.smartgeeks.com

I only got one e-mail from him when I was inquiring about the studio that time, but the other guys that run the studio on the day to day are pretty cool also and might be able to help or atleast fwd the question to him as I know he is on the road a lot. *shrugs*

My guess though without listening to the album again would probably be a phaser with maybe some distortion or something a little though? Dunno... goodluck though in your search man and you could try contacting Smart Studios to see if you could get hold of Butch. *shrugs*

lol yeah, that and probably about Smashing Pumpkins, Garbage, Hole, and any other project I am forgetting to name that went major that Butch put his signature touch on. lol

Never made it out there to record actually caus it was a while ago when the project that I was in at the time had label backing, but it would be something to record with Butch out there. :) They have a pretty sweet setup I hear.

He uses chorus and EQ, the chorus on slow sweeping and high depth

yeah it sounds like stereo chorus. the reason people would think it was some kind of filter sweep is because when the L's come out, it sounds like a brief sweep.

I'm not sure if this is correct...but I heard they also used a couple of Oktava ML52 ribbon mics.

Is this helpful?...

Cheers,
