Gettin' it up (...uh, on the Internet, that is)

Can anybody recommend a good free web host that will allow you store music files? I'm throwing a personal music page together and want to be able to link to my <50MB of MP3 sound files. I know the major providers I've seen don't really do that, or have limited space. Any chance of remaining a freeloading cheapskate, or do I actually have to bite the bullet and shell out cash for this? :) Thanks in advance for the help!

I know of a cheap but very good service that gives you 250megs of space plus other goodies.
www.powweb.com $7.77 per month If you use them I'll give you my site info so you can say I refered you. I'll get $15 credit I think. Trust me, they have great service, been with them almost 3 years

I sell webspace as well (through dB Masters), less space and a little more money, but for HRC members I can work out a good deal :-) and the service is excellent :-)

Not to harsh Gus' buzz, but I have a friend on Powweb that has had a horrible experience...he isn't happy at all. I dunno what you do there Gus, but my buddy runs some pretty intense web apps (and I think he runs a version of this community script I gave him) and he isn't happy at all...but that's just one person.

tincanbug, what are your need as far as technology and stuff? email me via www.dbmasters.net contact page...with space, technology needed (PHP/MySQL database, anything like that)

I will give you this. I host without gimicks, no silly online website builders and file uploaders and crap like that (though I could install an uploader for you) My clients use FTP apps to upload and such. I have a community much like this one at dbmasters.net main site for customer service (I don't have many probs so it isn't that busy).

Also, I only host domains...so you need to own a domain (which I can help you do as well). Though I could probably set you up with www.dbmasters.net/~yourname if you don't want to own a domain name. But it isn't my usual service.

dB Master, thanks for the info. My site is just going to be a little non-commercial "vanity site" with low tech needs. I just need a place to stash my music files. Thanks anyway though, I appreciate your responses. :)

By "professional hosting" I don't mean I won't host vanity/personal sites, I just mean I don't have a lot of the gimicky tools that places like GeoCities and Tripod have...that's all. I still host plenty of non-business type sites.

And ya, that Jebus guy has some serious probs, but if his hosting is good that is what matters. And no, making jokes of things like incestous rape or children and things like that I find less than humorous.

Yo dB, you ain't messing with my buzz. I forgot this is your main gig...damn...sorry dB. FYI I use powweb for a few things. One...my main site which is done in FP with no databases and such and another forum (Vbulletin) that is heavy in php stuff. I did have one major problem with them that was discusting. I was down with tons of other folks on powweb for one week once. I have another host that charges me 26 bucks a month for 2 gigs. They suck and I will move one day. Maybe oneday I will be able to afford to have my own server on the net. This other host is nasty and funky in a way that really hurts. Once I develope the sites I want on that host I will bounce if they don't get there act together.
I don't know what you really offer but I would stand behind you as you know your stuff really well. Plus your a nice guy and for me that's a huge plus....go with dB dude

Yo dB what are your rates for dudes like us? You can hit me back here or email

For active forum members in good standing, if you have your own domain name I can give 50MB of space a couple gig of bandwidth and PHP/MySQL support for 5$ a month.

You could also check out Catalog.com (Best service I've found so far and REALLY cheap) and if you're looking for totally free, Xoasis.com gives you a great address (www.yourname.xoasis.com) and they only put a few little pop up windows here and there. I'm not sure about how much space they give you though.
