Its like asking whos got the best kids...

Makes no sense...

But personally, the windows default recorder I think is the right tool for any job...Although there is that problem of only getting to record for 30 seconds.

Well, none the less, welcome to HRC.

But, you didn't answer any of the questions we posed earlier, which is onfo we need to really get to the root of what your band does, what you use and such stuffs.

Isn't nuendo, like 1200$US? I've never seen it but for that scratch, i'd figure it to be a whopper of a good proggie.

Other than that, there's bunches out there, and bunches of opinions to go with them. Some are in the 400-500 $ range, some in the 150 $ range, and some in the sub-100 $ range. then there's some that are free as well.

I suppose I should say here, that just because a program is X amount of dollars, doesn't mean it makes a digital signal better. Basically it's all digital (from our PC point of view) so after the signal is digitized, it's just a matter of how each program manipulates the data for you. Some people use cheapo programs that do wonders for them, others use high end stuff and create crap.

Try out demos, read (like the past posts here) and when you do decide, learn to use your tools properly and you will get a good product.

Also, get a good idea of what's important, like the above posters pointed out, and that will help you skate past the ones you don't want, and gravitate towards the ones you do.

ALso II: you could look at some of the profiles of the posters here, and see what they're running. Not that it would tell you what YOU need, but it would let you know what other people are running.

For little money, in the budget software category, for me, MultitrackStudio takes the cake, bar none, for $120 USD (or something close to that) for their best version, it's friggin awesome.

Though personally, my preference is Sonar, but v4 went up in price A LOT ($950 retail, cheaper for upgrades). That said, it is a GREAT app in almost every respect I have ever encountered, and now it supports surround sound too...you can still get v3 for cheaper, which is my main app right now, doesn't do surround, but it is awesome for typical stereo recordings whether audio, MIDI or any mixture of them.

There are many apps listed in the software section of "The Gear Bag" on this site, go check 'em out, and like somebody said earlier, try out demos when ya can. Mackie has one called "Tracktion" that is pretty cool too, and only about $80...

Get sonar 4. It is the best app ever and makes your signal sound soooo good. it just glorifies what ever you put into it and spits it out like a pro record. You wont even need to mix it, it does it for you and makes your music better at the same time.

Is that what you wanted to hear?

Cause it's not true, for ANY app. YOU need to choose one YOURSELF. It is honestly a matter of workflow.

I would look into cakewalk home studio 2. $80 and does a lot. I use it and am just now starting to grow out of it. For beginners though it is really easy to use and you don't have to make a huge financial commitment.

Dude, now, you can tell we really wanna help, but none of us asked what style the music is. We asked:

-What speed of PC do you have
-What sound card do you have right now (sound card is VERY important)
-What instruments are in your band
-How many do you plan on recording at any one time
-Do you use any MIDI
-What gear do you have right now (mics, amps, preamps, compressors, effects, mixer, etc)

We will help, but ya gotta help us help you...

Cubase and Sonar are both very good apps, either can handle almost any job, so what it would come down to is you playing with both and seeing what works best for you guys...which one you feel most comfortable with.

Considering that, almost any app would work, Cubase and SOnar would do it, but are both quite expensive, Tracktion from Mackie and MultitrackStudio are both in the $100 neighborhood and would also handle what you need. I have used both MultitrackSTudio and Tracktion and they are both very capable programs despite the price being somewhat low. Might be worth checking out.

www.multitrackstudio.com will get you a demo of MTS

www.mackie.com/products/tracktion/index.html will get you a demo of Tracktion
