I am going to begin home recording and was wondering weather to buy an audiotrak maya 1010 or a M-audio delta 66. I will be wanting to record only one instruments at a time but will want to record drums and probably use a few mics on amps and stuff. Can you please recommend which one would be better for this purpose.

Cheers

I)if you are NOT a drummer
you'll learn programming drums easy and with very good samples
II)if you are a dr you will need a mixer and mics and you'llbe able to record the whole drumset in one audio track(wich means you won't be able to do anything to any part seperately after the recording)

this is the end:
"i wanna record every part of the drumset seperately":
1010 would be the best
"i wanna record 2 stereo tracks(max)real time":
66 would be the best
"i wanna record only one instrument at a time ":
m-audio studio..24/96 would be the best
(m-audio,m-audio...i own a terratec)

but don't forget..
mics, monitors and a mixer is needed for every card....
"it's a home-recording"...

The Maya 1010 seems like a good card, but it's based on the Via Envy chipset, which kicks butt for gaming, DVD playback and such, so I am skeptical about it's pro uses.

However, I am just as hesitant to recommend M-Audio anymore with all the problems and now the buyout that is happening over there. ESI (Audiotrak's parent company) Has a WaveTerminal series that is might be worth looking at. ESI stuff rocks.

Their customer support is going tohell, I am hearing more and more bad reports about it all the time, now, to make matters worse (depending on your vantage point) Avid (Digidesign, a.k.a. ProTools) is buying them...yikes...

I see. WEll I've never had to contact their customer support so i wouldn't know about that... but the buyout is pretty bad. Guess i should get a couple more cards while they'll still work outside of protools

Yeah, I have never needed customer support myself, but the people that have I read don't have much luck. I'm glad I switched to ESI. Anyone getting swallowed up by Avid scares me...if I was a ProTools user I'd prolly be very happy though.

well my delta 44 is fine for now, but when I need to upgrade I guess I'll be looking at my other options. It's a shame though... M-Audio was one of the best out there I think.... Hope they continue to make the midi controllers and stuff

Yeah, M-Audio gear does rock...I hope Avid doesn't screw with it alot when they buy it.
