Mastering Software

Hello folks, I have a question...I'm working on a concept album and I want the CD to feel as one big track. In essence Disc at Once but without a break in noise, say random sounds and effects floating from one to the next. www.mtu.com/basics/audiocdmaster.htm
That program described what I needed exactly in an easy to use interface. However, it is very expensive and doesn't have a lot of online references to go by, do you folks no of any other program no matter how big or small that can perform this task (laying out my songs in tracklist order and adding additional sounds in between as well as determine the place to cut the track)! it would be a wonderful help.

Audacity is free and does a lot of it. What you will need to do is compile all your songs in to one large wave file, then, drop markers at the track points. I also believe the lite version of Sound Forge can do this, and perhaps the lite version of WaveLab, but not sure about either. Also, check out GoldWave at www.goldwave.com that app may have the marker thing...not sure though.

yes, but it's not for doing what he is asking about...Har-Bal is only for final harmonic balancing and loudness matching...

Have you guys looked at Wavelab 5 yet? It looks like a suped version of Pinnicle Studio. Moving big time into video. I had to page back 3 or 4 pages into technical specs. to find that it still has pre-mastering tools.

Opinions?

I check out a demo, WaveLab 5 is awesome, but the price tags is insane for a simple mastering/editing tool. It costs more, or as much as many multitracking tools, just doesn't seem right. That said, I may upgrade out of necessity, but I waiting to make that judgement until I get my copy of Sonar 4 and see how much that app has grown...Between Sonar 4, WaveLab 4 and Har-Bal I may have no reaosn to upgrade, or at least allow me to wait until a paying job comes up that will require me to get WaveLab 5, in which case I can build the cost into the job ;-)

SOund Forge is also worthy of the cash - good mastering software and easy to use with top results.

I like the app a lot and its not as expensive as Wavelab which is also gid...

My $0.02c !

I'm torn. Right now I have two machines on a KVA switch. I do small amounts of simple video work on one. Pinnacle Studio, Coral, and photoshop are on that one. All of my audio studio stuff is on the other. I am seriously thinking of putting all AV on one machine. I have always worried some about conflicts. I may just go that way and religate the second machine to MS Office, database development, email, web, printers, etc. This would make wavelab more valuable. I could dump Pinnicle Studio altogether from what I am preceiving. I will obviously want to do a little more research first.
