paypal confusion

anyone use paypal? the sign up process seems to be unmediated by, say, a friendly little cartoon animal that explains the reason for things clearly and simply. do i need to have money in my paypal account to buy something online or is it enough for me to link a debit card to the paypal account? i guess that's a dumb question.

You can use your debit/credit card directly through it. It basically moves the money to your account and then to the person you are sending it too, does all this for you automatically. Paypal is great to pay people with but I be John Brown if it doesn't cost you an arm and two step childs to receive money from someone. But it's a most to receive and use on ebay now.

You can link your checking account or debit card to a paypal account, but I'd recommend if you have a credit card to use that. Reason being if your account is ever compromised and somebody wipes out your checking account the money is gone, with a credit card your only liable for the first $50, so the most your going to lose is $50.

PayPal is a fine system. Ive been using it for buying/selling online for quite a while now and have no problems with it.

Great...there are alternatives like NoChex etc but I like PayPal.

Wise move linking yer credit card Olddog...I think I'll dae that and remove my cash card.

Yeah, use credit card!

Since you have got it and used it already (woot! joined us here being a HRC Pro!), I have a paypal horror story.

See, in order to get money you have in your paypal account to you so you can like get cash and not just in your paypal account, you have to have your checking account on there to "deposit" the money from paypal account to checking. So, after saying all of that, I paid for an ebay auction I won. I could have sworn I used my credit card I also have on my paypal account and not my bank account, which you can also do. I didn't noticed that the money was taken out of my checking account till a week later when I had a check bounce. I'm sort of a perfectionist, I keep my check book balanced constantly, I don't make these mistakes. What the....is going on? Called paypal, the lady wasn't helpful and wouldn't understand what was wrong saying paypal would never do that, that I made the mistake. Well, this has been over a year ago. Couple months ago, got an email from paypal about a suit they are going through and the main topic was this. Taking money out of other accounts where the user requested another method. All this mess happened right after ebay bought paypal, talk about screw up.

So, just wanted to share that great story. Other then that, everything is useful with paypal. I still use it because there is no alternative now that ebay owns paypal.

Welcome to HRC Pro forty.

I have used PayPal for years and I have never had trouble getting money from clients. I like the system very much.

Also, what I did for the credit card registration issue and bank account registration issue was simple. My wife and I got a credit card and dumbed down the maximum credit limit to $500 (wow, try to ask for a LOWER credit limit at those places sometime...) and we set up a bogus bank account that is used for nothing but PayPal bridges.

Then, when a client pays, or the balance gets over such an amount of money I pull it out of PayPal and into the bridge account, 3 or 4 days later when it's cleared I go to the bank and move it from the bridge account into our real account.

This protects you coming and going. If your credit card gets ripped, it's only a $500 max and if you bank account gets ripped, it's only the bridge account and there is never any significant amount of money in that account for a couple days before it's moved into a differetn account.

forty, the rasberry-cayenne chicken is awsome. I did that for the boys this summer at one of the campouts and it was splendid. My boys both dig cayenne on everything so it was a natural for them and they turned the other boys on to it as well.

Cayenne is the spice of life in my book. Other then curry I dont think I have used anything else as much, except for Garlic, but that is a given.

I will have to try the pie though. If ya get a chance email me the pie recipe, I would love to try that.

wow! noize those are the three best spices in the world! i love curry. i am trying hard to learn how to make a legitimate red curry paste and a nice chicken korma. vindaloo and korma are about as good as it gets.

as for the pie, i dont remember which exact page i got it from but there are a lot of recipes for it out there. here's google search result.

Everyone knows that paypals rules and features change from country to country, right? i.e., debit cards cannot be used in canada UNLESS they are issued by a credit card company (actually a credit card with a 'debit' feature), etc...

Thanx forty, I guess I coulda goolged it as well. But indeed the redpaste is a tough one. I alwasy get the red so hot it will cause blisters, well maybe not that hot. But if it makes my 11 year old sweat and tear up then I know it is too hot for most humans, but it sure does taste great untill ya cant eat anymore.

I have got the brown with peanut and coconut dow pat, and the green is still iffy. I am waiting for a green cury salad recipe from the local thai resturaunt that was fabulous in the resuraunt but I am sure I will muck it up somehow.

But indeed Curry is the spice of life.

Thanx forty, got the email and we are gonna do that at the next camp out. I figured a way to tweak the temsp to do it in a dutch oven and tried it out and it worked pretty well. A little more tweaking of temps and it should turn out good. I'll be making it again at the campout this weekend. The boyz loved it, as did I.
