That, my friend, is cool!!

I tell yi this bud, I am jealous...you have a voice that in part, sounds very similar to John Lennon - ma all time hero.

You sound very similar in bits to him - just the way you sing...its cool.

The song is cool tae, I liked the wee sample near the start tae..aye, this good bud. Nice laid back, mellow vibe goin on.

Good work.

Mibbes, on reflection is more like a phaser than a sample now I listen again man...I like it anyway.

It just kinda comes swooshin in...

And the John thing is there man...dunno how being as you're from Cambridge and he had a funny accent even for a Scouser!! Still..its something to be proud of dude - sounds cool.

Another great song, flame... keep it up man ! I can totally see where Coco finds the JL connection in your voice... kind'a uncanny at times . Good stuff ! Love the discorded background stuff, mint .
(Though, the title puts me in a bit of a quandry reguarding a song I was going to post a demo of just last week, but decided to wait 'til it's tweaked, called "Here Come The Man"... maybe I'll call it "An exercise in audio-induced paranoia", instead ? Hmmm...)

I absolutely hear the John Lennon thing! (But that's a good thing!) I really like this song! I like the lyrics, and I like the synth stuff going on in the background. Well recorded and well mixed...My ears like it....

Just follow the king of "borrowin" Mr Noel Gallagher...borrowed the riff from Cigarettes & Alcohol from T-Rex, tune from Dont Look BAck In Anger from John Lennon, Whatever from Beatles - Octupuss's Garden...etc...etc...etc!!!

He openly admits it and whilst I hated it at first, Im now a big Sis fan...great band. Good musicians and they couldnt care aboot anyone else's opinion.

So - "inspiration" theft is cool...as long as its no fi me!!!

Now, where's ma lawyers number :-)

Flame, I am on about the 15th listen. That is probly one of your best to date.

AND there most CERTAINLY is a resemblance to John!!! And you should be damn proud of it as well. I can name at least a hundred peeps who have attempted to no availe to sound like him and most sounded crap. You on the other hand just plain sound like him naturally. And that most certainly is a good thing. You sound as he did when he was at his best.

But enough of that crap, it is still you that is making the voice, smooth, haunting, comforting. I am still listening as I write and the emotion of that tune is creeping into my head. All the stuff going on especially at the end, very well put together to say the least. The bass line and all the synth part's and samples sit very well, and the vocal sitting off to the right is superb. It give the vocal part a lofe all its own.

Great job, I cant wait to hear the next one.

Oh, and by the way Flame, you got a compliment from Ray my youngest. He thought the tune was fantastic, and he as well said your voice sounds so comfortable and smooth. And he thought it sounded like someone on the radio, I am guessing another Lennon comparison as well.

And Tuna as well was very impressed, he of course liked the judicious use of samples and sounds.

Good song, man. Nice ambience and atmosphere with the synth kinda thing in the background, as well as the main synth thing in the verse.

maybe bring the vocals up just a tad, especially since everybody says they like them :)

I think what brings out that John Lennon comparison even more is the slight delay and reverb on the voice (and is that a touch of flange or chorus on there too?)...it just reminds me of how he sounded on his solo stuff.

which synth do ya mean tad? the piano, the bass or the swooshy noise? vocals could be eqd a little to bring them out i guess...actually, they did stand out a little more until i sonic-foundried them...

as far as reverb and stuff goes, i love it...there is both reverb and delay on that vocal...but no flanger or chorus, though it is doubled up - maybe thats what youre hearing.

Hey Flame

Thats the vocal sound Im shooting for...if yi can lend some tips towards it. I think I hit it a couple of times but I lost a lot of mixes when I reinstalled the PC not long after I got the Delta.

Good work tho dude...its a great vocal sound ya got.

right, here goes:

i record the vocal track through a shure sm57 through my eurorack mixer. eq settings wise i crank the high (12khz) to the max, same with the mid (2.5khz) and boost the low (80hz) by +6.

i repeat this with a second track of vocals, mixed lower to suit.

for the reverb i use steinbergs 'reverb' plug in on the 'long and warm preset, about 15% wet.

lather, rinse, repeat as necessary.

I love this Flame, great song, has a very haunting and soothing quality about it. The song and vocals definitley have a Lennon flavor to them, but the song is unique and all yours. :) The vocals could be a bit louder to my ears, but it must be my ears since every one else seems to hear them fine. <g>
