I'm a fairly accomplished musician (guitar, bass, keybords, etc), and have been playing in bands for years. I'm a complete novice at home recording, which is now what I want to get into. Can anyone suggest a good overall "primer" or beginner's overview book, or other resource to get the big picture in terms of systems, process, equipment, etc?

The Recording Tips section on this here site is a good place to start...Im sure there will recommended books on here someplace tae.
Start with the articles tho - they are a good place to start and written by some real good people from this site.
Welcome and good luck...

Sep 02, 2004 03:57 pm This site really is the best "primer" I can think of, and I don't just say that. With all the information on these pages you could write a few books on different subjects. Just ask any questions you have and we'll answer, and search the site.
For basics what you will need though is a recording medium (like a DAT or Computer), A mic and mic cable, A preamp or Mixer, A decent Soundcard, and something to listen to your music through, as well as the software.
