broken 319?

I recently purchased an Oktava 319. I've been using it for basement recording and left it up on the mic stand uncovered for about a week. I tried to use it today, and no sound is coming through. I can hear things through the headphones when I move the mic around, but no vocals come through unless I turn the inputs way up, and only then it's a very distorted fuzzy sound. Someone said I could have gotten dust on the ribbon and ruined it. Someone else said all these condensors take is just the right tap, and the riboon is gone. I tried the cords on other mics and they work. Phantom power is on. I guess I just need to know if it's dead and/or if someone else has had a similar expereince. I've moved the buttons on the mic around too. Still no sound.

Is it possible that someone knocked the mic over without you knowing it? I would plug in a different condensor to see if that one works. I know you said that you tried the cords on other mics, but didn't say if the test mics required phatom power or not to operate. If you can't get it narrowed down as to where the problem actually is, then I would take it back to where you bought it. Have them plug it in and see if it works.

Trouble shooting:

Identify the problem
Localize the problem
Isolate the problem
Solve the problem

That's the way I always look at it anyway.

Did you ever yank the cord out without turning off the phantom power to it or anything along those lines?
