harmony plug in

I have a few songs that need "perfect" background harmony. I play all the instruments on my recordings and have attemptd to just overdub the background vocals..but I'm not too happy with the results. I have also used Clone Ensemble, but it just sounds too fake. Are there any plug ins that might sound better?

I came across one awhile back I'll see if I can dig it up and post a link for it. Nothing plugin wise though that I've come across really does a very good job of creating vocal harmonies.

dB's suggestion should put you started on the right track.

Aye...I have an Akai plug and its gash!!

Its meant to be for just that type of thing and it is rubbish I tell ya..sounds all fake. Im glad I paid £9.99 on special offer ! It was originally 99.99!!

Not worth a bolt. I tend to use some delay and I have on occasion used chorus. Doesnt alter pitch obviously like I think you are meaning but does give your vox some depth...

Good luck

I have tried just about everything you can think of. Let me give you some more info. If you have ever listened to Lenny Kravitz, he seems to create the perfect vocal harmony with himself. I want to capture that sound... my voice... as if it sounds like I am a choir. Using chorus, altering pitch...etc.. just sounds too processed. Of course maybe I am not tweaking in all the right places ( perhaps someone has a "basic guideline" for getting a good vocal harmony.. be it thru a chorus or altered pitch effect?

I know of no plugin that give truly good convincing results. CloneEnsemble is about as good as I have heard at creating a choir type sound from 1 person. Now if it were just ahh's and ooh's you could probably get away with samples and get pretty decent results.

As soon as you start singing words your in trouble though <G> The voice is just too complex. Odds are if LK has a choir sound on a song, He has a choir doing it. :) Depending on your vocal range and skill you might be able come close with enough experimenting, but if you require pitch shifting more than about a step, to get notes your probably out of luck.

ACtually.. Lenny's vocals are all his and you can tell it's him just harmonized... the bass, tenor, alto, sorprano parts are absolutely perfect. I'm not sure what he uses to get this amazing sound, but I suppose the best way is to just record these parts track by track...Clone Ensemble comes close, but again it's just so "fake" Thanks for your help...

How much is that Flame then?? I was looking at a hardware job for the same thing - it was £50 reduced from £250 in the Turnkey.co.uk catalouge.

Funnily enuff, there were none left when I phoned. IT was an Akai thing with a pedal to switch it on and off which I thought would be handy for my solo work I plan on doing end of the year live...

This Yamaha thing you speak of sounds interesting. I had an AKai software plug and it was gash....

Well there are hardware vocal processors that (TC Helicon, Digitech etc.) will do what you want to and do it pretty well, but I haven't found any software harmonizers/vocal processors that do a good job, though if your willing to spend enough, I'm sure they exist. :)
