If its not one thing, its another. I am thinking of getting a desktop unit. No more PC, no more cpu noise issues, no more plugin compatibility issues, no more wires into the other room, no more hardware going south, etc etc. I have dumped probably 10 grand into my studio in the last yeaR and a half, and I have nothing but these farging problems occuring, as I now have to replace my stupid Layla sound card....... and I have people waiting to do their singles, jingles, voice overs, even a puppet show (audio)

I know the fact that you cant use all the "cool" stuff in plugin interaction is a factor, and the tracks are limited also, but the 24/96 is the same, and the effects on these units are usually pretty good, even if you are stuck with them. My brother has a 2480, but thats too much for me, not only price but in abilities and options. The one thing I cant ever deal with is no option for a monitor/mouse. I could never mix again looking at a matchbox screen. I need a unit that will have the abilities to at least have an actual monitorscreen hookup option.

If I sell all my crappola, whats the best under the Roland unit?
I know that is a silly question, but I mean it, I am tired of the conflicts. My buddy even told me, "Ive never seen anyone have this many problems with pc stuff",.......

If I had pro 9 and a p3 back, I would be happier....or actually, my Yamaha tsr -8.....or whatever it was called...

Your a man after my own heart Guitwiz. I feel the same way about pc recording, crashes, incompatability issues etc. I am just too emotionally fragile to be f#$#%ed with like that. I have a 2480 with 15inch LCD and love it, though it takes all night to defrag that drive. AAAARRRRG!!! By the way the roland now has plug ins via their cd drive and new effects card. I think the yamaha 4416 is considered the next step down or equal. I have the 2480 so I'll call it the next step down. there might be more user friendly units out there though. There's a band "Hollowshell" that did their Cd on a 4416 It might worth a listen. you guessed it their link is on my links page.

keep the faith wizz...my thinking is that if i sort out enough of these bugs and glitches that home recording throws at me ill end up with a rock solid DAW thatll last me years.

thats the plan anyways...

Wow, sorry to hear about the difficulties. Myself, I use somewhat of a hybred system. I have an Alesis HD24 that I use for recording. Extreamly simple, portable, stable, etc. for actual recording. I then transfer files to my pute for mixing and mastering. Simple commercial grade 2 channel D/A converters for monitering. Obviously not the approach for everyone, but it fits my needs very nicely.

Sad stuff . Though, I find myself subscribing to Flames school of thought ... maybe I'm just a masochist ? Good luck dude .
