I have a Mackie DFX12 Analog Mixer. I'm looking to buy a good sound card like a Delta 44 or 66.
I'm not sure if the digital S/pdif sound card will work with my analog mixer. Should I purchase the analog sound card or not. If so, which is the best way to connect it. My mixer has RCA Ins and outs and the sound card is 1/4".
Please if you know what I can and can't do help would be greatly appreciated. What are the advantages of having a S/pdif sound card and a analog one. For example Delta 44 and Delta 66.
Can the Analog mixer still work if the card is S/pdif ?

I wouldn't go with a S/PDIF sound card. That is good for boards that have a digital S/PDIF out. Those RCA outs on the board I presume are for stereo returns for effects that could be used like busses so to speak. So, I would go with the Delta 44 with the 4 in/4 outs. That's just my suggestion.

S/PDIF, however, is also good for other things, such as output of 5.1 signals, input and output of various signal processors, DAT's if anyone besides me still uses one and such stuff, so, there is still a place for S/PDIF in a studio.

That said, as vdale said, your mixer would plug in to the analog ins of whichever card you choose.

So the mackie dfx12 can be connected to the delta 44 or 66. Just the spdif is the difference and I don't really need it. What is the advantage having the spdif card if I have and will only use this mixer ? Can the 66 still work the same ?
