I been using the firewire410 for a while now and got hold of a couple of new monitors and bunch of speakers from our "neighbour" in the studio.. I got curious and started experimenting a bit in cubase and its no problem at all using all those speakers.. but I realized I might be able to use the firewire410 and watch movies in 7.1, wouldn't that be just great? yupyup.. but now comes the question.. how in the world do I make microslops winsux understand that I want sound in 7.1 surround?
Basicly I can't setup it up properly in windows. fthe fw410 mixer shows only one stereo input so I cant route them/make subwoofers as I want.. they are just copies of the first two inchannels.

any tips and trix/ideas?

It's not Windows you need to be upset with...Windows is not responsible for knowing what type of output you want, it's the app you are using to view the movie, and the sound card and it's drivers.

You have to tell your DVD playback app that you want 7.1 in the apps preferences, then you need to make sure your sound card and drivers know how to handle it. I have never done 7.1 in my studio, but I do 5.1 rather frequently and it works great.

Oh, and Welcome to HRC :-)

Now, say you are sorry to Mr. Gates :-p

wow you have really enlighten me! I got it all working now just by fiddling with the apps, Deep inside the options in wmp9 you could change the audio output to 5.1 maximum.. previously I always used VideoLAN.. Now I've just got to find an app that supports 7.1 (and a movie, LOTR just had 5.1 :D )

And compliments to the programmers of xp pro.. I've never really had any problems with it (on THIS computer.. many others have seen its last days with xp installed ;) )

Thanks for the help (and for now flaming a poor new user)!
Now I'm off watching movies all night :D

Nah, we never flame newbies and unless they start by flaming us :-)

If WMP9 only support 5.1 (yes, you're right, that it) then that is the best you can do, which is still damn cool.

I love XP, it's been rock solid for me for many, many months. The only problems I have had I created my self beta testing software or hardware or something wacky like that.
