Behringer UB 1202 help!!!

Im hoping there are enough of you like me out there that are using this "economy" mixer and maybe have figured out some tricks. Dont get me wrong I love this thing. For my budget, it's perfect. My main issue is that I am running an alesis nanoverb through the effects loop, and I can never find a good signal without distortion at peaks. There seem to be too many variables to control in this situation...individual effects volume on each channel, main effects return volume on mixer (this one really puzzles me) input and output control on the alesis, and finally the volume control on the channel you run the effects back to. What the? it would make sense to have an effects return volume on the board if there were dedicated effects return jacks, but, no....I have tried every setting I could think of..always making sure my input signal was good etc..Anyone feelin' me out there? Anyone with some tips? The only thing I can think of is maybe running a compressor as a limiter before the effects to kill the peak transiets...as I really dont have the cash to run individual comps for every signal. Life sucks, put on a helmet, right? Ok, so what do you all think? And, while your at it, why not start a thread with all your secrets and tips on how to make the most of your cheap mixers...like running seperate signals using control room out puts...etc....come on now...let me have it!!!!

Ok. I think I got the idea of what you're saying. I've got a 1202 also and have been dealing with something similar since getting my alesis compressor. You go to your FX unit through the FX send (of course) and return through another channel. The channel you return your unit to should have the FX knob turned ALL THE WAY counterclockwise. Now, the FX knob on your input channel ONLY should be used to send however much signal to your unit that you want. You may want to only send 20 or 30 percent, or (in the case of compression) you may want to send ALL of the signal to be processed. Set the output of your FX unit so that only the two green lights on your main mix section light up. If you are still getting peak distortion, then it is probably peaking as it enters you FX unit. Lower the volume level on your input signal and increase the output on your FX unit if needed to maintain the "two green light" thing. But make sure to check the main mix through your headphones, as you may also be peaking at your recording device. Hope this helps some. I'm still fiddling with the unit myself. But MAN, isnt it a GOOD unit?!!?

yeah its kind of like that...I know I have to turn the effects send all the way down on the stereo channelIm using the effects return. My individual channel effects out levels are at 12'o clock. I balence the signal going into the alesis so its not distorting..then balence the output so its not any lounder than the input. then I turn the channel fader for the effects channel all the way up. I use the wet dry know on the alesis to control the effect. The main prob is I cant get the effects return knob on the mixer past the second tick before I distort. and I cant find a happy medium between a clean wet mix and peak distortion. so how about that?

I should also say that I can hear the distortion from the headphone out on the mixer, so I can rule out the recording equip...thanks

If you want to put the outboard stuff before the mic pre stage, but post input, you could run into the inserts on the board also. Oh wait a minute, that would only effect one channel.

Nevermind..... <hits head>

Ees' just too much Seeenoir !

Back off the retun volume, and then slowly bring-up the send, 'til you like it . You'll find all that Berrys noise in the return .

except it all seems to equal out...if i back off the return, and raise the send (after adjusting the alesis levels to compensate) I end up with the same amount, right? I am already down to bare minimum on the return side...like i said, Im only on the first tick usually....craziness...oh and I dont have inserts in this mixer...were talking cheap here, remember? he he

ok, I have the 1204, I got me numbers crossed. I was thinking you had the same one as me, exceprt you had the effects built in. The berry decks are real good for the money though, hope you get your stuff resolved
