Whey you buy Cubase, or cakewalk sonar 3 and software like that. Does it come with a mixer in it so you wont have to buy one or what???

Well, it comes with, I guess you can call it, a software mixer. Still have to have a type of soundcard with inputs to get the instruments recorded and then use the "software mixer" to mix it and make it sound good.

So I guess my next question would be what type of sound card will do me good...???

How many inputs do you need (are you a band recording all at once or a one man band recoridng one thing at a time), how many outputs do you need (do you plan on using outboard gear while mixing, maybe using speakers and headphones, etc), what software app do you plan on using, which will dictate the best driver to use with the app, then it limits the sound card to one that have that type of driver

My suggestion, look for an app that supports ASIO drivers such as Cubase or Sonar. ASIO is a low latency, high perf driver, it rocks. I like M-Audio sound card, they have ASIO drivers as well as WDM and MME. There are however manyother cards that do as well. M-Audio seems to be a favorite for home studios due to it's feature/performance per dollar ratio.

Like I said before, it's a win, win decision. Either way you are going to have a very capable recording computer. If anyone says you have to get one or the other to do anything good, they obviously have some very bias opinions based on their personal choice and are doing you a dis-service by trying to make you feel bad for not making the same choice. Both are very capable.

There are literally hundreds and hundreds of people here using PC's quite successfully...worry not, you are going to be very happy with your decision.

Ok great!...oh and it will just be myself recording for now...I don't have a band at the moment...so I wont need as many Inputs and as far as outputs goes...While I'm still gathering my gear to make this studio, will a set of nice headphones do good until I can afford some studio monitors?

A set of cans is better than nothing :-)

For your use, look at the M Audio Audiophile 2496, it's a great card for a great price for us one man band type peeps.
