Sonar not recognizing midi device

Hey, I am having the same problem as slothrop posted on feb 8, 2003, but it wasn't ever answered sufficiently. Sonar 3 is not recognizing my microsoft GS wavetable SW synth as a midi output device, i.e., it's not even an option in the "midi devices" dialog. It only lists "microsoft midi mapper," but that is not working at all (I don't even think it's a real midi device). I have tried reinstalling the drivers and sonar 3, but still no midi output device is being recognized. What can I do?
