I have all the tracks ready to burn into cd but their volumes are unequal, how do I level them?

Jul 19, 2004 08:51 pm That's what mastering is for, you have to even them out either with your ear or with something like the match loudness feature of an app like Har-Bal

Jul 19, 2004 09:10 pm If you use a prog like Ozone you can watch the amount of compression in the maximizer. You can get pretty close by watching for max compression and matching that across tracks.
Jul 20, 2004 06:29 am I use Sound Forge for this job. It has some very good presets (Master for CD) being the main one! Does the job perfectly (using a built in Compressor/Maximiser).
The above apps will also do the job...
It all depends how much cash you have to spend/what level of results you need.
DB swears by Hal-Bal and I am thinking aboot giving this a try...

Jul 20, 2004 11:40 pm yeah...thats cool...I use soundforge too sometimes to master...do you L2 first then master for 16 bit or master for 16 then L2 ????
Jul 21, 2004 06:32 am I always master for 16 bit last...it seems to take whatever you have to the limit, without clipping best this way. If you do anything after you've mastered it - you run more risk of clipping methinks...
Still, top app it is!
