Does anyone know how I get that "Compressed" Sound out of my vocals... it's hard to explain what sound I'm looking for... It's like you're singing into cupped hands... the band TOOL uses this effect a lot, as well as other rock bands. If anyone knows what i'm talking about... man I'm rambling, sorry

Hey, I have an idea, try talking into cupped hands? hehe

Seriously, we actually discussed this on the last forum before we moved, the way I get that type of sound is to either go with cupped hands around the mic, or make a bell curve out of the EQ boosting the mids and severly cutting the highs and lows as well as applying a little reverb and/or chorus if you want to add a little "megaphone" sound to it as well...

hehe... Guess I'll have to try cupping the hands then. As far as the EQ thing goes, I'll try that too. I was just wondering if there was a studio trick to get that sound. But if Cupping the hands around the mic works then I'll try that first, saves me some money. Thanks

yeah, if you mean like in stinkfist and eulogy, that kind of vocal sound, to the eq thing like db said and add a bit of distortion. you could add the distortion before going into the computer, if you wanted, but i mean i've done it using sound forge distortion which is quite frankly crappy. just a bit makes it sound really good and hot though....

There is no good distortion once you are on the PC, always put distortion on beofre you get the signal into the sound card...

or, that's my opinion anyway.
