Hi everyone. This is Ben Brackett. My internet has been down for a long while, so I'm back with a new username. Anyways.......

I had planned on Purchasing a Digi002 with Pro Tools Le for a long time now. The only problem I had with the Digi oo2 was that it didn't offer 24 faders for all tracks at the same time. You had to select each track by groups of eight. Then, I heard about this new control surface from Tascam, and I wanted some opinions. It offers 24 faders, as well as a joystick for stereo mixing. I wanted some advice and opinions on this new product, if you have the time. Thanks.

just a personal (but strong) opinion:

i chose to avoid pro tools and am happy for it. i looked into LE once, and compared to cubase it's limited, if i remember correctly and have not grown too biased. with LE, you'll spend extra money for the hardware and still wish in the end that you could afford the PRO pro tools. VST effects won't work for you in either version (i've heard). there are other limitations, i thought, too. after all, LE stands for 'light edition.'

that daw controller is 1600 bucks. you can have cubase or sonar for far less.

pro tools might be the industry standard, but for me there is absolutely no need to feel that i gotta have it. also, i dont really see how it's going to continue to remain the industry standard whilst the company remains so insular. sorry. i just hate pro tools. they had me snared for a while because they've successfully created a really cool mythos for themselves by being so...unattainable. people get starry-eyed talking about all it can do. but since no one but pros can ever afford it, a lot of the slavering is just hearsay!

Yes, one thing people seem to forget is that PT TDM is industry standard. Way different program. Of course for TDM you must spend Oprah scratch on a HD system which you will only have to upgrade down the road.

Thanks for your input, I appreciate it. I'm going to stick with Pro Tools though because I've used it many times before. It has everything I want and I am comfortable with its user interface. I'll also have a lot of rack effects and thrid party equipment and applications at my disposal. My question was, do you think that the Tascam DAW controller would be a better purchase, or the Digi002? I've already decided on Pro Tools, I was just wondering about the mixers and/or control surfaces. I know you're not a Pro Tools user, so you probably won't be able to make claims about one of its products. I just wanted to

There arew many control surfaces available, most of which all do the same things, just from different buttons or faders. Best thing you can do is go to a local store and try as many as you can before purchasing. Or at the very least visit all the web sites and read the marketing hype about each one.

Sorry to go off on that little tangent there. Seems that I was feeding off of forty's post more then yours.

Well, I was just at banjo center 2 days ago and was playing around with these two units (very, very briefly). The tascam is HUGE so make sure you have space for it.

Both units seemed solid and well built. The tascam doesn't have built in scribble strips, they are displayed on the computer screen (a big deal for me).

I would probably go with the 002r just because of compatibility reasons. In the end it would be best if you went and played with them yourself.

Well i use pro tools... the only thing i've used that can control more than eight faders is the Control|24 and it rocks, but of course it's $7k new.

on the other hand, i've used a mackie d8b digital board and it can control 8 pro tools faders via its hui layer and control of only eight faders is not that bad. good luck

yeah, sorry ben. as i walked away, something about your post made me think that you had already decided. familiarity is always a good selling point. i hope it works out for you. sorry, but i can't comment on interfaces (and probably shouldnt have about pro tools, either.)

Sorry I didn't reply sooner, I had a problem with the internet. Anyways, I wanted to thank all of you for replying and helping me out. You advice was appreciated, and I've decided to go with the Digi002, for combatibility reasons. Thanks again guys.
