May 28, 2004 09:22 am Oh, very cool... :) That was really enjoyable!
"Hey Kids! For more information on other exciting banjo-playing or bluegrass-inspired modern artists, consult your local library." (see Bela Fleck, Dixie Chicks, & Phish. Also I think String Cheese Incident does stuff in this vein...)
Help a grizzled old musical hermit out here... is this a take-off on a Radiohead song or something?

May 28, 2004 09:39 am It's a medley of about a dozen radiohead songs mashed together, little bits and pieces from their whole career summed up in less than 5 minutes!

May 28, 2004 10:21 am I feel so old... I didn't recognize any of it. I couldn't name a single song by them... that's what I get for usually only listening to cds...
Are they any good? I've been kind of looking for newer music to get into...
pass the geritol, please
May 28, 2004 10:41 am I'm glad you all liked it!
...and The Tincanbug, Radiohead is worth checking out. Thier newer stuff differs from the old (they use alot more synths and stuff) but it's all good. I typically only listen to reggae/ska/dub music but I find Radiohead complaiments my preference in music quite well. I have actaully used Radiohead alot as an influence in my songs/guitar playing/dubs. I'm confidant when I say there is no one else like them, they seem to be always on the edge and setting trends before its popular. A good Radiohead CD to check out is "Ok Computer". A concept album of sorts with a good mix of guitar/rock songs mixed with the newer synth stuff they do now. However, any album would be a good one. "Ok Computer" is just a classic CD already.

May 28, 2004 01:06 pm I would also recommend Porcupine Tree... their newest 5.1 SACD is good.
May 28, 2004 01:44 pm tcb,
you're not old man. somehow, some people fail to discover radiohead. i think we're like about the same age or something? i've been a fan since i was 18. i envy you, if you're about to check them out for the first time. 'ok computer' is definitely what i'd hand you first if you've never heard them. and 'the bends.'

May 28, 2004 02:42 pm TCBug, I spent my college years listening exclusively to Phish, Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, and a select few other bands. it wasn't until just a couple of years ago that I finally started branching out and listening to 'contemporary' stuff. OK Computer was my entrance into newer music, and it was inspiring to see that i'd only seen contemporary music by its ugly face of MTV and pop radio...lots of good music had been released in the last decade and I hadn't seen any of it because it was under the pop-culture radar. Radiohead was a shining example of the good stuff that i'd been missing.

May 28, 2004 05:50 pm Unfortunately, a lot of good contemporary music doesn't get played on the commercial radio stations (big surprise), so the only way a lot of people hear about cool new bands is via internet or public radio... Around here, Cincinnati, we're lamenting the recent demise of our nationally recognized modern rock station, 97X, because the owners sold it so they could retire, taking their 11,000 CD's with them. They used to play ska, reggae, stuff like Monster that you wouldn't hear anywhere else, unless it was country... Now it's turned into a station where the edgiest thing they'll play is A Perfect Circle, which is all right, but it seems they're not interested in promoting local bands anymore either... We're all really bummed about it.
