Drum Setup - 3 Dynamic, 1 Condenser

Okay -- doing some drum miking this weekend, and just ordered my first condenser. It's pretty cheap, but I figured I'd better have one. Here's what I got:

1. MXL 990 Condenser
2. Shure SM58
3. Shure SM57
4. Shure SM57

How best to mic the drums? I'd say I should use MXL as one overhead (pointed toward the hi-hat), the 58 as the other, and one 57 on the kick and one on the snare. Anybody got some other ideas?

Sounds like a great way to start . With a little tweaking you should be good to go . If you don't get the right sound out of the overheads, try switching the possition of the 990... it may lead to the sound you're looking for ... and there's some great info in the tip's section !
