What headphones do you think bring out the best sound includings lows, mids, and highs? I had the Sony MDR 7505 headphones, but when I let someone record, they broke the speaker so now I need new ones. The 7505 were pretty good, but low ends didnt come out as well as I was hoping.

Ya, I've got a couple sets of Sony's and I love them. I wish I could remember the model numbers, but I am at work....sorry. I think one set is the 7505 and they are a little light in the bass catagory. The other set I have is sported as a DJ set and have 40mm drivers. They do real nice in the bass department and still very accurate throughout the entire frequency range.

What specifications should I be looking into for studio monitor headphones? Which ones are the most accurate? Should they be closed or open? What would you consider to be the industry standard?

I have a $70 set of Sonys that I love, but they are very old model "Digital Monitor" they are called. But then, I also have a set of $20 Radio Shack cans that, for some reason, are really kick butt.

My best advice is to go try a few on listening to music you know well and see what sounds best to you.

yea, i've heard a few good reviews about the audio technica at-m40fs. They even had a 9.1/10 review at zzounds.com. I need to find a local store that carries them so I can demo them.
