No man. The classical sound is a softer, while the acoustic is more metallic. Sting uses a lot of acoustic in recent stuff - the nylon high strings you can hear have little twang. While the standard acoustic you could hear in something like eric clapton's tears in heaven unplugged album. The acoustic is more metallic sounding and often used almost like a percussion instrument when the pick makes the strumming sound (this is why it is important to mic the strings).

Mauz has got it! Words such as: earthy, mellow, open, might apply more to classical strung and designed acoustic. It's almost hard to talk about as each guitar is made to have it's "signature sound". I guess it's all in what font you like?

Classic acoustic guitar is a bit easier to play due to the softer nylon strings, it has a mellower sound, and there is more space in between strings, great for finger-picking. As for the steel-strung Acoustc... it has a richer and metallic sound, Mauz has said pretty much everything about steel-strung acoustic, actually.
