clicks in wav's after ADAT transfer from Fostex to PC

Hi there!

Recently I bought a new soundcard (EMU 1212m)with ADAT-connections, which gives me the possibility to transfer my Fostex (VF16) multitrackrecordings to my pc (to further edit in Cubase SX).

After transfer I hear now and then disturbing 'clicks' in some tracks.

I tried a 'declicker-plugin' to remove the clicks but I can't get rid of them.

has anyone got a clue what I should do?

thanks very much! Fred

The clicks sound like they are jitter errors, I know nothing about this, but have you ensured that the ADAT and PC's wordclocks are correctly synced?

jues.

thanks for your reaction.

I indeed read somewhere that incorrect syncing can (also) cause this effect. I'm not shure what settings I have to use. Information about this is very hard to find (someone any tips????). The manuals I do have are not very clear.

Anyway, I tried to avoid this by not syncing at all; I just click 'record' in Cubase and push 'play' on the Fostex. I do this 2 times (with 8 tracks each), and afterwards I sync the tracks manually in Cubase.

Does anyone know a good link to information about ADAT, syncing ?

Yes, this will not work and will lead to the tracks slowly drifting out of synch anyway due to the internal clocks of the sources (your soundcard and the adat) drifting out of sync - this is why the wordclocks need to be in perfect sync - your ADAT manual will contain information on this, but alas, I can help you no further.

Well, it worked for me - that is, I got the tracks where I wanted them. And syncing was a piece of cake. (I guess with a song of about 4 minutes there simply will be not much time to drift out of sync?)
But then those nasty little clicks!
