OK Folks...

Greetings from Scotland. I have finally recorded a song (albeit a cover) which I am actually quite happy with in terms of performance and production and audio quality.

I've been on this forum (fantastic by the way) for about 4 months now and have learned more here than I could have dreamed of learning from anywhere else in years!! So for this ... thanks.

Now, I've tried to REALLY put this into practice with my latest offering. This is a cover of the Rolling Stones "Dead Flowers" and is the first song recorded with all my new gear/software so I hope its far better than anything I've ever done before.

If you guys can have a listen (Please either download or listen HI-FI - LoFi is BADDDD!) and give me some pointers and input/advice I would be more greatful than I can say.

I can genuinely say that a lot of what I've acheived (which is a LOT more than I knew to start with) is down to this site/forum and for this I am greatful.

Here's the link.

The other song I had recorded is on there and was recorded using my old setup (i.e. Before the M-Audio Card and other stuff I bought). You can have a listen to this too if you fancy - Im quite happy with this (Noize gave me input previously which helped me sort this baby no-end) - but I am re-recording it to improve audio quality - this song is "Apart From You".

Anyway - thanks guys and enjoy (I hope!)

Cheers...

Coco.

Sounds good! I think the guitar sound stands out the most to me...I really like the tone.

As far as pointers, I'm a novice at this so I won't pretend I know what I'm talking about, but to me the hi-hat is a bit loud...covers up other instruments and draws attention to the fact that it's not a live recording of a hi-hat.

I think it's really good overall.

Cheers Ty, glad you liked the tune.

Aye - I had considered that Hi-Hat a touch on the loud side myself but I done the whole drumset in one track....so, I will kinda struggle to sort that damn hi-hat.

I might be able to EQ it somewhere along the line but that will also affect the rest of the drums!

I was also pleased with the guitar tone..its been a bit of a sore point to be honest. I'd been struggling getting the tone I wanted using the V-Amp and Epi Les Paul...used my Fender Strat and problems seemed to disappear! Les Paul was too heavy me-thinks!

Thanks for your input tho..appreciate you taking the time to listen.

Cheers...

Sounds great.

I would agree you that the hats are a bit loud. They seem to even over power the guitar to my ears but it doesn't ruin the mix. I know the difficulty of 'fixing' drum issues one it's been mixed down, you might be able to notch some of the mid-high freq to tone it down a bit but if it kills the rest of the cymbols leaving it won't be the end of the world. The delay/panning on the vocals really compliments the song style and period I assume, not familiar with the original. My first tought was that the vocals needed to be nudged up just a bit. I like where the bass track is sitting and how it pops out every now and then.

Overall good mix. Keep it up!

Thanks for the input!! I think the vox need a wee touch as well to be honest but I wanted someone else to confirm to my tired ears!!

I think I'll try the EQ on the drums as you suggest and see how it sounds - if it don't work - there's always UNDO :-)!!

Aye, the delay with the vox is a trick I'm trying to master. It's really a John Lennon type vocal sound I'm going for with a Rock type GNR/Aerosmith even Sex Pistols punchy guitar sound.

Not easy but I'll keep pluggin!

Thanks again for the input..all input is greatfully received!

Hi Folks

Can anyone recommend (or is there indeed such a thing available) as a "Harmonizer"?? Basically, on this track (Dead Flowers) I've recorded 1 vocal track and doubled it to create a nice delay effect (with one volume way lower).

Anyway, I was wondering if there is any plugins that can basically create a vocal harmony? I know you can alter pitch and time (But this ALWAYS sounds like a chipmunk or a droid when I do it in Cubase - I stress when I PERSONALLY do it!!!)...

Either that, or, can anyone offer any advice on how to create such a harmony using the original vocal track at all using perhaps a Pitch Alter or Time Stretch plugin (which I have with Cubase?)

Many thanks folks as ever.

Thanks for all your inputs on this one guys.

I've realised this post should really be in the "Music & Composition" forum so I've moved it over there!

Apologies folks..I'm used to simply posting on this forum a lot!

Cheers...
