I haven't heard the whole thing... just a few tracks. I'm not really digging it, but then again, I didn't dig any of the other albums the first time I heard them either.
Anyone else have any thoughts?

Apr 14, 2004 06:57 pm The production on it seems like it's over-compressed in general, it sounds like I mastered it in my living room.
As for the material itself, it starts out very strong but kind of fades part way through. I haven't been too impressed with it either. I guess its a natural progression, seeing how the band has progressed from Lonesome Crowded West to Moon and Antartica to Good News For People Who Love Bad News, getting a little less edgy and unpredictable.
I heard a very fitting description of it the other day: if you've never heard Modest Mouse before, you'll probably enjoy it, but the long-time fans will have a hard time with it.
I'm still on the fence about it...I'll have to give it a few more listens before I come to a final judgement. I find that the albums that I like the most are ones that I have trouble with at first.

Apr 15, 2004 09:56 pm The only ones that I've heard from them are "This Is a Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About", "Lonesome Crowded West", "The Moon and Antarctica" and "Good News For People Who Love Bad News".
I think that "The Moon and Antarctica" is definitely the most interesting of the bunch. The production is great, plus I'm a sucker for a concept album. They're a "love 'em or hate 'em" kind of band...I can't get any of my friends to listen to them, but I really like their style. Matter of fact, my main inspiration for my concept album is Moon & Antarctica.

Apr 16, 2004 10:16 am it's not so bad! the name i mean. the album has actually grown on me as time passes. with repeated listens. i think he's improved lyrically. one of the reasons why i didn't like it at first was because their original drummer left and their newer one has a very different style.

Apr 20, 2004 09:19 pm ug2102 hit it on the head. Things change, people change, band members sometimes change. And we dont care to hear the change sometimes as wel come to expect certain things from certain people. As was stated if you are a long time fan you might hate it but if its your first time, you may like it. I have been listening to them from the get go and I have to admit I am with ug so far on what I have heard. It is growing on me, and truly enough I will probly go out and buy it. A local shop is trying to get it on vinyl for me and that would be tops.
Anyway, I am liking it as an old fan as well. But then again that is just me.
Apr 21, 2004 04:36 am I've never heard of them but i hear they are very small over here in Germany, just playing small clubs. Anyhow, i can have a CD off a friend and i've half got it in mind to go out on a limb and ask for this one...

Apr 21, 2004 08:19 pm The do play a lot of smaller clubs. I think they are more into those type settings. Whenever they play here it is a great little club that now has one of the best FOH systems in the midwest. I think those type settings are better anyway. Not to say big loud arena isnt great but for them I think smaller is better.
