whats up whats up...I havent been here in a few weeks..(greets to Noize, coolo, DB, jamie)..back from gigging!

Im going to buy mics for my own usage real soon as I have Sure SM58s and 57's, its time that I invest in getting a Large Condensor mic...I know this site and alot of people are raving about the MK319 as great for vocals as that is the ONLY use I will have for mics that Im gonna be purchasing. I have read it is "warm" - however I'd like to know if these mics are great with respect to the high end? I wouldnt want these mics to be extremely warm where it lacks brightness...Thanks for your inputssss....glad to be back :)

the 319 is realy good. very transparent and doesnt add alot to the sound. it has better low response than high (but no 2 are the same unless you buy them from the soundroom) for the price you cant go wrong with an oktava sure beats the hell out a japanese made mic like the MXL from marshall even though they are wired with mogami.

i have the oktava mkl 2500 which is a tube condenser it has a lot more warmth and presence ALOT MORE. and i am very interested to get my hands on a mk 52 i think the name is i dunno but its a ribbon mic

Josh - Thanks for the input. If anyone else cares to add in their 2 cents, will be appreciated. I'm going to inspect the 319 alongside RODE NT1 - I've heard it has a good all around sound with warmth and nice brightness. Although I know you can achieve stuff you want via EQ but you know.... ;)

Coolo - It was cool man...Im waiting for pics from the gig to be posted up and I'll display it..You working on anything new?

Hey deeps good to see ya back. Ya I have used them for years and love them. Again, very warm and I wouldnt trade it. I usually push it pretty hard with vox to get all the upper end out of it. You can also hit the low cut switch and that will help limit the botton end on it. The last band in here was a pretty heavy metal type and the singer had a very big bottom heavy voice and I used the cut and he was very impressed with the outcome. The rode will be much brighter, but some say it is almost sterile sounding. I like them for instruments and female vox, but I still prefer my 319 for male vox and dont seem to have a lack of upper end on mine, but it is an older model as well.

If you can get your music store to open several and let you try a few as they really all do have a bit of a differant flavor form one to the next. But that is what makes them unique.

Cant wait to see the pics form the gigs.

I wouldn't worry too much about upper end unless you are recording a cricket singing. Both the NT1 and 319 will cover vocal ranges very well. The 319 will generaly add more mid bottom / bottom end and sound fuller, richer. The NT1 will be more accurate. To date I have only worked with one singer, female that I have prefered the NT1 on. She is however exceptional. The color of the 319 gets in the way of her fine natural voice. Every other vocalist I have worked with benifits from the 319.

I've got to say that all of these LD condensers have their own sound. You really need to try it out and see if it's right for your voice.

I have and use the following for vocals;

RODE NTK
RODE NT1000
Shure KSM32
Studio Projects B1
Oktava MK319
MXL57
Shure SM58
Shure SM86

On my voice I prefer the NTK "most" of the time, but there are just certain songs where it is clearly not the right choice, and that with the same voice and just different songs.

The truth is that almost any of these mics will work with the proper EQ, I always try to get as close as possible without EQ if I can.

I guess it depends on whether you are looking for a mic with nice "air" or not. The RODEs have that in spades and IMO the MK319 doesn't. They have some highs but nothing like the RODEs. Sometimes that "air" gets in the way. Sometimes it adds just the right shine. It just depends on what you are after.

Blessings, Terry

still4given: yeah im going to test it out - these woudlnt be for my vocals as I'm a producer so they'd be used for other vocal artists who come in and sing for me...Thats a dope *** list of mics you got there ;)

With me when I get back from testing the rodes and the mk319 is which one should I buy and possibly buying both the Rode NT1 and mk319...

take care
