Hey guys,
I just uploaded a demo of the band I'm recording right now. I'm still mixing it, and we may go back and retrack some of the stuff, but I would love to hear some feedback on how the mix is coming along. The title of the track is "A Thousand Prayers." It's not like the stuff I usually do, so it's been cool working with these guys. Right now my impression of the mix is that, besides the fact that the clean electric in the heavy part needs to come down (Any ideas on making that sit better?), it's a different kind of mix. It's got a bit of rawness to it (especially the sort of out of phase, oddly tuned toms in the soft parts), which I originally was unsure about, but now I think might be a kind of nice artistic touch. I don't know-- I may be out of my mind :)

Anyway, here it is:

Besides agreeing about the clean guitar, I can't think of another noticable problem to comment about - everything sits well and is nicely seperated in the mix, and except for a slightly shaky vocal performance right around 2:15 it's excellent. I like the song - it's definitely cool. This is a quality recording. I agree with you about the toms, I like the feel. Nice, man!

I'd like to hear some background vocal ohhh's in some spots. it fills nicely- the begining seems out of sort though. it sounds empty or something. takes away from the flow in my opinion. If that was fatter it would move into the rocking part easier.

over all i think its really good. and i love the squeal at the end, never take that out. that really gives it character.

Haha... Yeah, we all liked the squeal. As for the vocals, we've still got to do harmony/backup and such, and we are going to fix the shaky vocal part there (If the singer agrees, which I'm sure he will since he is very picky about his voicals- which is a good thing). I think I know what you mean about the beginning. The guitar was doing funky stuff there too-- the strings were hitting the pickup or something. Perhaps the drum entrance is a bit weak? We may re-record the drums as I mentioned before. We'll see. Thanks for the input!

Gotta agree on the squeel. I will give it a better listen later and let ya know what I think, but it sounds pretty good on first listen.
