so i just ran into a pair of akg c-1000s condensor microphones, which is very handy considering that i was looking for a pair of condensors that might be good overhead drum mic's. are these good for that purpose? some of the stuff i read said they're good for recording vocals groups, like choirs etc, but i'm not going to be doing a lot of that.

dont see why not...might not be the best way of doing it, but im sure itd work, and youd be able to get decent enough results.

do you drum, or do ya know a good drummer by any chance?

yeah i used them for drum overheads on these tracks:

i also used one in conjunction with a shure beta 52 to mic my bass cabinet, and for 'caposong' guitar along with an SM57, and for the hand piano at the end of 'caposong'. works for me!

i don't own one, and i've never used one, but i've heard them called the "Swiss Army knife" of mics.

personally i want one just because you can power them with either phantom power OR a 9v battery! the thought of a portable SD condenser makes me drool. :OD c1000s + minidisc = found sound bliss

Oh man, that's a sweet idea, Jamie! Yeah, I hear those mics are great for overheads. I believe jues uses them for that purpose as well.

i know people that use them and do well, but they actually sound a bit too shimmery for my tastes.

well thank you for your comments, i don't drum personally, but my band's drummer does, actually we have 2 good drummers in the band. minkus maz thank you for the songs, sounds like i found a pair of usable overheads. i actually have this digital portable recorder, and some stereo microphone that some guy gave to me, forget what brand. sometimes i walk around with it, doing field recordings. it's so cool. by the way if you're into that kind of stuff, i would reccomend checking out this band the books, they take using samples to a completely new level.
