I am new to MIDI and have installed Sonar 3.0 Producer. I can hear audio fine and MIDI through my KORG Trinity but can not hear any of the plug ins through MIDI or the demo's or tutorials in Sonar. All is connected properly according to what the manual recommends. My audio interface is MOTU 828markII.

what MIDI synth are you using? I use a second soundcard, a cheap Sound Blaster Live, to audition MIDI tracks, but ultimately settle with VST instruments for the sound synthesis.

in fact until i installed that second card, i couldn't hear the Cakewalk demos at all!

The MOTU has midi in and out... but otherwise as far a synths go I am just using the Korg Trinity. I am assuming since I can hear the Korg record and playback with the ins and outs in Sonar routed properly that whatever soft synths Cakewalk has loaded with the program would playback also through the MOTU. Do I need a second sound card besides the MOTU?

check that the channel's (where the synths are loaded up) are routed to the proper MOTU outs

Maple, you need to make sure the port is assigned to the Korg then. When you bring up the tutorials they defalualt to a general midi setting such as witha soundblaster and such. So you will need to go in and assign your output port to the korg for each channel of midi they have an instument on. You will also want to note which instruments are on each track so you can match the patch on the korg.
