connecting my mixer to my 8 track recorder

I have a Peavey Mark III Series mixing console, and a Yamaha MD8 digital 8 track recorder. The Mark III is a 12 channel mixer. Each channel has a Post Send & Return, & a Pre Send & Return. My 1st question is: Can I run my compressor into one of the Send & Return, & then with a patch cord send the signal (instrument, mics...) from the other Send into a channel (track) of the MD8 recorder to record it? If I can, which do I use for the compressor, Pre Send & Return, or Post Send & Return? I'm really hoping that I'll be able to route all of the signals through the mixer and compressor first, and then into the 8 track to record. any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated!!!

Sure you can, that's no problem, as far as a pre or post send, well, thats subject for debate, I use pre myself, but unsure if thats general concensus.

is that Pre Send & Retun for the compressor? then i guess i'd use the post send as the signal out to the recorder! thanks db master!!!

oh, yeah, sorry forgot about the other question. yes, if you can't use the main out, and you have no other busses, yes, the post send would work just fine.

And you're welcome :)
